RB modded lrp 28

I sent my engine to RB mods. It needed some small work done to it. Front bearing was starting to leak. I will keep you updated on the work being done. It's really cold here now so not sure how long it will be before I can really get it running.

It was over a gallon, probably closer to two gallons. I started getting an erratic idle and so I took it out of truck and noticed the oil coming from the crank area. According to Rick, there isn't a nitro engine made that the front bearing is worth a dam from the factory. He replaces them before ever starting a new engine.

A small update to my motor. I spoke with Rick on friday and he uses an apex bead in the front and will be using a boca for the main bearing. He did alot of crank work and smoothes out the power band on the sleeve. I'm getting really excited now. I also learned a few things about fuel also. I run sidewinder 30 and he knew it before I ever told him due to the buildup on the engine components. He recomends byrons or odonnels for better engine life. I will post a video when I get installed.:motorcycle:

sounds like your engine will be "sweet" after the mod, and thanks for the info blazer x as i use sidewinder myself and thought it was great stuff!! but I'm all for making the engine last longer so maybe i'll switch fuels to!!

Here is another reason the like the lrp. When the owb starts to slip you get the whole assembly for 25$. The backplate, hex shaft, owb and 4 new screws. Hopefully engine will come in tommorrow, Rick said he mailed it on tuesday.

Here is a pic of the crank. It was drilled and lightened, rustproofed, and balanced. I did not get any pics of the sleeve yet. Just got my flywheel today and with good luck be able to drive it later. The engine was completely clean with brand new apex and boca bearings installed. I gotta idle it for a couple tanks to break it in and will be ready to go.

Let me just say that I had really good luck with sidewinder and don't mean any trash talk whatsoever. I can just say I ran this engine all year long and never took it apart once until it started acting up and that's when I saw the small bits of surface rust. I would not be afraid to recommend sidewinder to anyone, but I still am going to try the new stuff anyway just because I never ran it before and I'm out of fuel.

Well I finally got everything installed and started it up for first time. I resealed everything a green slimed the needles and put back to original settings. Ran ok for first half of tank just idleing and blipping no WOT. Then it started acting up again, just like it did before I got it modded. So I reset the needle to factory settings, replaced all the fuel lines and bypassed the filter. It took forever to get it to fire, new glow plug, got it running and blahh just kept dying on acceleration. I've tried it on the rich side and lean side and it dies exactly the same, very abrupt. It almost acts like something is jamming up at slow speed and killing the engine. I'm goona swap engines from my hellfire to savage and see if I get the same problem. I think I need a new set of eyes to troubleshoot. Any ideas guys ...thanks.

From what you just said, still sounds like glowplug. Can't think of anything else off the top of my head. I have put new bad plugs in before.

The needles aren't moving by them selves are they :dunno:. Don't really know what could be wrong. I hope some one can be more help then me.

How annoying is that. Pull a brand new $8 plug out and it's dead.

Yeah, I have even pulled one out of package with the coil missing.

when i ignite the plug out of the engine it's nice and brite. could a bummed out igniter be my problems. When i stick the igniter on the gage it wobbles bad on the plug and the gage jumps from dead to good. But I figured if it starts it must be ok.

I have had the same problem with modded motors. They would start and die constantly, no matter how you tuned them. Come to find out it was a bad plug. Not saying this is the problem but wouldn't hurt to try a different plug, especially with the igniter jumping around like you say it is. good luck.
