With the parts I have laying around and the parts I picked up from HPISavage_25 I am on my way to Savy #2

Here is the base of the build.

FLM LCG TVP's
3 Speed Trans
HPI A720 Big Bores
49/17 spur/cb
Max Life clutch shoes

I got the front and rear assemblies from HPISavage_25 and they seem to be in decent shape.

Things I have on order.

Front/rear center dogbones
Brake kit
Throttle/Brake Linkage
Motor Plate and Mount
Hexhead screw kit

Things left to get.

Axial .28 spec 1s
Pilot Nut
Mugen 1.0 springs
Air Filter
Steering servo
RX to go with my MX-3 fhss
Hump Pack

I started mocking up some things to kinda see what I had and what I needed to day. Theres just a few big ticket items left like the RX and the mill other than that i think its just a few odds and ends.

Here it is as of now.

sounds like a cool build bud, gotta love the FLM look. pm sent

Thanks. FLM nailed their design on the head IMO.

i love the look of them rims/tires. always have.

They are growing on me. I have a set of Zombies waiting just in case. They just need some rims.

pretty nice savage for just spare parts lying around

Thanks. That's one of the main reason I figured I would go ahead with the build.

The parts list just got a little shorter.

I ordered a http://www.axialracing.com/ftp/ax0331_28rr-2_engine.html]Axial .28RR-2 the 28 spec 1s is getting hard to come by these days and for what they were going for on ebay i picked this up. I hope its worth it lol. I drove a little over an hour to MyAtomic thinking they were an actual lhs. It turns out their "store" is only a packing/shipping facility and they only do phone and internet sales and the guy there wouldn't sell me anything from the window :dmt:

I have my linkages, brakes, motor mount and motor plate. I am waiting on a package from 88gtanotchback with a steering servo, hump pack and air filter. If it shows up this week I might be able to start the break-in on the motor.

The mail man is going to get a workout this week :lmao:
I was going to just buy an RX for my mx-3 but my kids all want to try driving it so I sprung for a 3pm.

I also have a pm into Robin to get a pipe to go on my Picco and I will be moving the 086 to the Axial. I also picked up some Rulux half-ups to mount my Zombies on. I'm not sure if they will fit or not though.

Well I got some wrench time in on Scrappy tonight. I started off and did the steering bearing mod.

Then I mounted the battery box, trans, motor plate and put the drive shafts in.

IMG00139-20100410-0101.jpg

Then I tried to turn the drive shafts.:dmt: they wont turn. Easy fix right? I cut the rear brace and mounted the two ends.

I figured I was in business now. :nutshot: WRONG lol. I looked alittle closer and checked my FLM motor plate and the FLM is notch a little in the rear so the plate can clear the rear drive cup. I scratched my XL plate marking where I needed to cut and grabbed the Dremel. I made 1 cut and the battery on the Dremel died. Before calling it night to let it charge I mounted a Zombie Max on one of the Rulux Half-ups. I think they are gonna work out nicely.

More pics!! :loveford:

I finished the motor plate. I'm not real happy with it but it will work for now.

This Axial is the first true boxed motor I have bought. I let Robin do the break in on my Picco just so I had peace of mind that I didn't botch it up.

I pulled the back plate off and noticed that it was at TDC. Is that normal or something I should be concerned with?

This is something new to me as well. My F4.6 and Picco both have buttons that sit under the cooling head. The button for this motor is built into the cooling head with an O-ring to help seal it all up.

Max-Life shoes on and ready to party!

I know lol My carb is backwards. It's all fixed up now. I noticed after I snapped the pics haha

I would say its about 75% done at this point. I need to go back and thread lock my screws. Hang the exhaust. Mount the other two wheels and tires and glue them. I need to get a roll bar and skid plate as well. I also need to put in the 3pm RX.

Very nice it's coming along nice..
I was thinking of going with the Rulux 1/2" offset with the badlands hmm

They are nice them. The Half-Ups are a little bit taller of a wheel. I am really having to stretch the tires to get them on. A pain in the butt but I think its going to be worth it. For the Badlands I wouldn't get the Half-Ups.

thats the nice looking "scrap" build ive ever seen. lol nice work bud!

Well its pretty much done. Ill have the roll bar tomorrow and I am going to order a FLM skid plate to go on it this week. OH! I need a glow plug. My friend came over with his XL and we were going to break in the Axial but neither of us had a cold glow plug.

Here is a pic of his XL too

I started heat cycling the motor today and have 4 tanks through it so far.

I think this thing is going to be evil.

It might even be worthy of a ERCM pipe one day. Who knows :dunno:

Heres a short clip of the very first start. I did it with my phone so its not the best. It fired right up woth a short blip of the rotostart and never looked back.

Keep us updated on this mill.

Will do for sure. I don't have a whole lot to compare too. It is definatly going alot better than the break in on my f4.6. The power gain is really noticable as more fuel goes through it. I hope to get some more video Sunday.

I forgot to mention I am using a MC-59 plug and Byron's 30%.

You may want to try a colder plug as it breaks in. I'm no expert but one thing I have read is that both bigger motors and higher nitro contents prefer colder plugs. It's different for everybody but that's supposed to be a general rule for a starting point. I run the MC-9 in my k5.9 on Sidewinder 30%/10% oil. The MC-8 caused it to cackle all the time for some reason. When I get a .28 I'll try the MC-8 again.

I have a MC-8 here. I'll give it a run today. I would fire it up now but it's 5am and I don't think the neighbors would like me to well lol

I got a little bored this morning and ended up making this little handle to get to the tank a little easier.

I used an old pull start handle, fuel tube and 2 zip ties.

We got out to the fairgrounds where they set up a MX track every year in this video its still running pretty rich.
