After I ran about a gallon and a half of feul through my my savage 4.6 the pressure spring came apart and a peice of the spring tore a big gash in the side of my piston. I got a new starting pin/pressure pring set (part#1433) and replaced the old one. I put the old piston and sleve back in motor and hit the rotostart a couple times just to see what would happen before I put in a new piston and sleve just to have the same problem occur again. The savage wouldn't start which I knew thanks to the big fat gash in my piston! However, when I took the motor apart again to check the new pressure spring I found that the end of the spring furthest from the starting pin was bent. has anyone else had this happen or even heard of this happening? I was planning on replacing this motor with an Axial .28 anyway but I wanted to rebuild the stock one so I would have a back up motor. I don't want to waste the money on a new piston and sleve if the spring is just going to break again and find it's way back into the cylinder. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can tell you this is a new one to me. How does your crankshaft look? Some pictures would definetly be a plus. You may want to try contacting HPI, they are pretty good about helping their customers.

ya i agree, contact hpi i've heard of them actually sending out the parts needed to rebuild the engine for free before!! I'm not saying for sure thats what they will do but it sure wouldnt surprise me!!

I take it you have the f4.6? I would definately call them and tell them what happened. The worst they can say is no and I'm willing to bet you will get a new mill out of it.

thnx 4 the input! I checked the crankshaft and it looked fine. I will call hpi and see what they say. I can't figure out what would cause this to happen. Perhaps it's a factory defect? I dunno........I've never had any problems with their engines b4. anyway thnx 4 the help!
