Just ordered my savage X SS KIT. Can't wait. I just wanted to ask a stupid question. I want to up grade to the 17mm hex conversion, is it worth it?

http://www.hpiracing.com/products/en/87229/

Do I need anything else? I know I need new wheels and tires just don't know which ones to get. Any and all suggestions will be helpful.

Thanks guys.

Dirt bones are sweet tires just get ofna foams for them. Toss out the hpi foam b4 you glue them. If you don't want them pm me a price unglued. What TX are you going to run ? Leading to the fail safe... No opinion of the 17mm conversion. that truck comes with both 14-17 mm adapters. your good out the box till you decide..

Great choice going with the kit, has alot of the hop ups already.like bank said change the foams.

You mean that you just want the foams, or the tires and the foams? I'm going to be using the futaba 3pm it has it's own fail safe installed. I did not know that the truck came with the 17mm adapters. Also going to buy the big bore shocks. I'm also going to buy the ofna throttle / brake mod. Other then that I don't know what else to buy for it.

Id say other than what you have listed would be the savage suspension conversion. Best #1 hop up on my list and some other guys here. It turns the savage from a Brick on wheels to a well handling truck through improved steering and improved roll center. Only works with single front shocks but with the Big bores your fine. However its not cheep. Can be had on Ebay for the 130 USD range. Worth every penny but also needs a Hat bushing upgrade that Armageddonmonkey is makeing for me at his shop as we speak. Don't be fooled by the other alloy hubs for the savage none do what this one does.

The 14 and 17 mm's it has are just the nut and hub type not like that conversion but like I said work till you decide.. if you don't have the money for both right now do the suspension conversion over the 17mm conversion. More bang for your buck all day.

As for the tires I was talking about the rubber not the foam they need to be put in the appropriate land fill. Don't waste your time with them HPI foams. They are junk to say the least. But with good foams those are great tires for most surfaces.

Good Luck WJC and don't forget to take pics as you build for us to see bud!

i want new rims ,any ideas

I don't know I don't know what to ask for them. But let me think about it. I'll still need to get new wheels myself. I didn't get the truck as of yet. But if you want let me know what you think they are worth.

If its just a race rig only go with the CVD's. If you will be seeing big air stick to the dog bone type. Cheaper in the long run when you start snapping them

OK thanks. No racing just alot of bashing.

All 17 mm fit 17 mm lol... the 17 mm that come in the kit fit all the same rims the conversion 17mm fit. As long as its a 17mm hub you are good to go...
Ignore every thing that says "convert with" the X comes out the box good to go. but watch for rims that say T-maxx/savage that is the old savage and they are 14mm. But like I said your kit has them covered too. Once you do the conversion then you are 17 mm only.

OK I'm a dumb A$$. So forgive me for asking this dumb question but what's the sense of getting the 17mm conversion? It looks sturdier. Did I just answer my own question?:duh: AAAHHHH maybe for those of use who don't have 17mm hubs ok I am stupid. Should think about what I'm asking before I ask. LoL, Or maybe do a little research first. Haven't had the savage for a while yet so I'm out of the loop so to speak. I guess I'll find out once I get it.

well the conversion IS<---! a better set up.

XSS stock Has a hub and nut the nut has a flange to fill the hole in the rim.
Conversion has a threaded tube that fills the rim with the hub built in. then a lil nut spins on and holds it. Conversion is a better set up but the stock works fine.

Don't get the (87230) they don't last very well snapped 2 in one day stick with the (87229) much better than the standard X ones.

Thanks very much for that insight. I will get the 87229. I do remember once when I had my savage that I broke one of my drive shafts. No one of the out drives but the drive axle itself. Have they been upgraded?

Didn't know that the kit did not come with any servos. OH Well. I have a servo for the steering but need some advise for the throttle/brake. Any Ideas.
