Ooops!! I nearly fried my new Spektrum!

Well i recieved a new Spektrum DX2 yesterday, eager to get it set up and get on 2.4ghz i unboxed it, stuck my rechargeable 8 AA's in, switched it on to make sure it works and put the Tx on charge on my standard charger (in the kitchen) lol then went in the living room and started reading the manual, about half way through the manual i read that it cant be charged from a standard charger because of the different polarity middle pin +, and the Spektrum needs middle pin -

Anyway i go running out to the kitchen to a slight plastic burning smell, took the Tx off charge and of course it doesnt work, Oh #@#*!! i was thinking, iv fried it before iv even used it! lol My Mrs was hysterically laughing too lol

Turns out just the contacts in the battery holder has burnt out somewhere and broken the circuit, iv used two bits of wire to bridge the contacts for now and its working fine, PHEW!! Just need a new battery holder if i can find one somewhere.

You can see where the metal contacts have melted through the battery holder.

Me too, i was so gutted lol i sent an email to horizon hobby just after i did it to see if it was repairable but no reply yet, don't matter now anyway lol

I'm a fan of takin the battery out of the truck (or Tx) in this case when you charge.

that way if you pop a battery (caz these things happen), the damage gets limited to the battery and don't fry a $100.00 Rx or something.

this batt fried due to a short, not charging, but you get the idea.


glad you caught it before major damage occurred.

Yea lucky really, i was a about 10mins into reading the manual when i read about it, luckily when i got out to the kitchen i noticed the light on the charger had gone out, it normally goes green when batteries are charged, so the connection in the battery holder must have burnt out breaking the circuit before any further damage was done, kinda like a fuse.

Ok i was going to get a charger just to charge the Tx but il carry on taking the batteries out of the Tx to charge like i always have, cheers!

Ur lucky I bought a new Dx3S and I had the new reciever hooked up and I was like sweet finally I can try out this telementry stuff went to plug in the switch wire but I actually grabbed the battery wire hooked it directly to the reciever in a telementry port walked out of the room came back in like 15 sec the reciever melted 🙁 sad day

Ouch Blinko i feel your pain there lol

Worst thing was if i couldnt get it going again id have to put all the stock radio gear back in and use it till i could get the spektrum repaired or get a new one.
