I just bought a X with XL TVP's off ebay, has some issues. Namely, I don't have a rotostart wand for it lol. I did order a pull start. I noticed the wheels are stripped, or close to it. I thought 4.6's had 17mm hex's? anyway, mine doesn't, but it will eventually..

Here's where I'm starting,

Actually they came with both 14 and 17 mm hexes, though the stock wheels used the 17mm hexes. You don't have the stock wheels there though.

Congrats on the purchase! Keep the thread updated as you modify it.

That explains why my ebay searches turn up weird 14mm/17mm hex results lol.

It'll be slow going, I'm also in the process of buying a new home, but I'll definitely be around!

ooo be careful with the pull start. I would have bought a rotostart. nice buy

When I started with nitro, your options were, a bumpbox... Well over 100 bucks, and more, if you wanted those fancy new style NiMH batteries lol. Or, a pull start..

Nowadays, I suspect many engines are built with more pinch than they would have been due to the proliferation of spin/roto/ezstarts, but I still prefer the simplicity of only having to carry my glow ignitor.

that' fine, I like the simplicity of it too, but I would try to find an aluminum pull start. the plastic one was giving me a ton of problems. I was pulling it off every other tank

You just gotta develop a feel for it, it's not a chainsaw lol.

as always , I tell people it is not a lawnmower, it is a tiny little pullstart unit, if ya man handle it it will fail....

I'm going to get some fuel and an ignitor and try to run it tomorrow, see how bad those hex's really are, and if I find any other immediate issues.

So... I ordered a set of Trencher X's, but I'm a bit stuck on hubs. My last Savage wheel purchase was some SC TXT1 adapters and Weld Outbacks lol... So its been awhile.

Are Savage 17mm hex's not the bolt on buggy's style with the larger nut? On EBay it looks like they are basically just bigger 14mm hex's, and have a normal wheel nut with a giant flange to hold them on?

How do these hold up compared to the buggy style?

The 17mm are the top two rows of the picture below. I'm still using the same 17mm hex set that came with my savage x ss 7 years ago.......lol

Ya I have the same setup as X and one thing I do that some others may not do is use a bit of blue locktite on the threads where the nut has no nylon inside it, ya ya I know they are self locking nuts , but a bit of insurance works wonders also....

Well after running three tanks and running into a ton of issues with my clutch, spur, and wheel hex's... I've decided to go nuclear... Updates to come next week 🙂

>makes popcorn and sits back to enjoy the explosion<

(of new parts, that is)

So far, I ordered these, http://www.amazon.com/Hobby-Products-International-Conversion-Savage/dp/B000BN0QJ6

And a complete 5.9 clutchbell/slipper/spur gear/shoes. As well as Mugen 1.1mm springs.

Trancher X's premounted on Desperado wheels

My future plane is to, rebuild/shims diffs, 80k up front, 50k rear.

Savox 1258TG servo? Is that the part number I want?

Put my Hitec 645MG on throttle Brake duty.

FLM EXT tvps, servo plate, motor plate, skid, servo mounts

MGT tank for mid tank

Some kind of battery box??? I live in Michigan, I'll be running in the snow and wet.

Some kind of screw kit?? Tony's still around? I'd like some decent stainless hex head hardware.

Probably a bearing kit as well.

Spare arms and knuckles.

I'm uusing a Traxxaas TQI radio, so far I'm happy with that.

Any ideas? Criticism?

I use McMaster Carr also. but I like the black oxide coated ones.... I got enough to do all my rigs for a good price.....

Not supposed to, but I am anal with my rigs anyway, I clean and dry and blow all clean with compressed air after every run.... I have not seen any rust as yet.....

Yeah, I use fastenal, I buy them by the box. Cheaper and I believe of better quality then the LHS sources.

I have a few of those compartmentalized trays with a snap lid, I have it full of screws of all types for my RC stuff... sits above my worktop and keeps them from mixing up... every now and then I make another order to my favorite screw and hardware supplier McMaster-Carr for refills....

This is my 3mm stuff I keep here in the cave...
