Well I'm new to the hobby and I am starting on some upgrades on my X. Any input on how to better suit this truck for major bashing and big jumps is needed. Upgrades so far: JR XR3i Radio, RPM Center Skid Plate, X-75 Maximizers, and new fuel line. I need some seasoned RC'ers input on this project all input is welcomed. Ill add photos as the project goes on. Thanks in advance for all suggestions.

Nice looking rig!
Have you gotten a fail safe and a rechargeable battery pack? those are nice items, also an upgrade for the steering servo might be a good investment in the future.

If you have problems with your spur melting don't get a metal one. Get the old 25 plastic one and mesh it right.

cool savy! fx just wondering but why should he not get a steel spur gear?

You will go through other drive train components, or if you engine slides and the spur/cb lock up say bye bye engine. It's good to have a plastic spur because if you have problems it's the first to go.

ive had a steel spur gear for about a year now and i have had no problems yet. i think that as long as your slipper clutch is set right it should be fine.
ive had my engine sliding before and the slipper clutch kicked in.
thats just my opinion. but i do get what you are saying.
thanks for the info 4x4

Yeah its running great and shifting really good. I purchased a dynamite fail safe, and a hump pack, and some braided fuel line covers cause I split the stock fuel lines rolling it in my driveway. I know alot of people just say bash and upgrade as it breaks. I can really only run on the weekends because of work so that leaves me all week to stare at my truck and wait for upgrades to show up via the bay or online stores...lol.

heres a couple of things i threw on it. a fuel filter, braided fuel lines, spektrum dx2.0 some custom hood pins and an exhaust tip.

Braided fuel line looks cool but you can't see the fuel in the line, pretty important to be able to see it and what is going on like air bubbles or lack of fuel etc.. if you get a hump pack will need a charger for it. 1400mah to 1600 mah pks are availble. The radio you have and servos are real nice as well as installing the dynamite fail. Did you ever look at Ofna fail safes?

Yeah I looked at the ofna fail safes basically just flipped a coin over the two. I bought a 1500mah hump pack w/charger and it comes with kit to charge it right onboard plus a battery meter that slaps right onto the X's housing. The braided fuel lines are more for show I switch them out to bash.

A couple more things added

Added a Dynamite fail safe with a 1200mah Hump battery w/onboard charger.

very, very, nice my only thing to tell you is, stay away from aluminum suspension components. especially if plan to jump it and rip it up. Ive bent it, snapped it, cracked it, just not worth the looks. I live in saburbia California, my savage is the urban assualt vehicle. With kids and mainly weekend driving too. Must find a dirty pit to RIP up.

After the Crash

Well I'm finally up and running again after destroying my 4.1. First thing was a new mill I had originally bought a used picco .27 outlaw for 65 bucks..it never got put in I then traded straight across for an Axial .32 and it frickin hauls I can barely control it...lol. I put on a THS 8020 pipe. (performance throughout the entire power band)...A new fuel tank...An Axial body...(which is really thick)...Finally some bigger tires. The truck is so heavy but it is still ripping wheelies (in the grass...lol) Heres some pics.

Also a metal spur gear means more rotating mass which means less speed !!!

nice pics! but wouldnt the metal spur gear have more momentum thus harder to stop?

the ammount of inertia a metal spur carries over the plastic stock is minimal, imo. i upgraded to a metal spur when i got my truck and have (as yet, touch wood :xfingers:) no problems!

Sweet truck man. You need to sweet talk JT into hooking you up with a midtank mod or make one yourself. He made mine and i love it. Let us know if you need any help.

Some more pics

Well, I don't want to say its a finished project but I'm at the point where I'm loving the truck the way it sits right now. Thanks for all the input from the guys that helped along the way. Most of the upgrades came from HPISF members input. So thanks again guys.

First, I started with new wheels. I knew I would be basher. I got Maximizers Beadlocks X-75 1/2 offset. http://www.maximizerproducts.com/maxstore/stores/1/Composite_1_2_Offset_17mm_Hex_C35.cfm

Thats how it has all started for me and I'm only five months in and completely addicted. Once again thank you all here at HPISF for all the help and info.

I was told that I did not need a fail safe with the spectrum system. I had problems with my spectrum system(when hooked up to a failsafe).I even tryed 3 or 4 different fail safe.Have had no problems since. Nice looking truck also. Joe

Spektrum receivers have a built in fail safe. I don't use fail safes my electrics have failed a couple of times now and every time my truck has just stopped. I must be lucky.
