Alright, i just did a full round maintenance on the savage truck. i took apart the 3 speed tranny and put it all back. the last time i ran it was early summer and i just took it out today in about 5 degrees weather in canada. its not idling for long on its own....do i need to change the spark plug????

something else that i am concerned about.....there is no shifting at all..... my truck goes just one speed now and thats it. no second speed or third and the engine is revving like crazy so I'm pretty sure its reaching the required rpm to shift the gears..... what shall i do????

2 main problems are the plug and the lack of shifting... help me out guys and the help will be mostly appreciated.

ok by this post i would say your tune is off as you would need to retune with the temp change. this can cause both of your issues. welcome to hpisf and where abouts in canada are you from

actually I'm not new here...i had around 500 posts but i think my account got reset to 5 posts for some reason...not sure how that happened.. anyway i live in toronto. its about zero degrees..

i took out the rubber cover that covers the transmission holes and i flipped the truck upside down. a bearing ball and a small spring fell out... something is wrong in there. broken bearing thats for sure and the spring is what I'm not so sure about.... any ideas where the spring might have came from.????

the bearing and spring are from the centrifical clutch that shifts the gears. you should also have a grub screw somewhere in there. put them back into the empty hole and adjust shift point. that should fix you up

yes you are right...i realized where they came from afterwards. i adjusted the 3RD gear (outside access) to the default setting which is all the way in and 3 turns out. i adjusted the 2ND gear (inside access) to dealt setting which is all the way in and 4 1/2 turns out.

i did these steps according to this link....
http://www.beatyourtruck.com/forum/showthread.php?26250-Savage-3-speed-not-shifting-outta-1st

i ran the truck based on these settings but still no shifting.

I'm running AB modded ofna picco 28 p3 motor with turbo head running on 30% nitro

if i lean out the engine the slightest bit it starts to choke on full throttle..and thats if i get to full throttle so I'm leaving the HSN as is.

any suggestions as to why there still is no shifting???? this thing is driving me crazy i have to say.

ok here is the way i adjusted my three speed. i start out buy turning the 3rd gear shift screw all the way in so it cant shift 3rd. then i warmed up my truck and started doing passes with the base setting. listening for the shift. if it didnt shift i would pull the trans apart adjust 2nd half a turn out. ( half a turn to see if it shifts early, easier to adjust up i found) if it doesnt shift after three 1/2 turns out try going in from the starting point ( you might find that its starting in second). once you get the second gear where you want it, 3rd is adjustable from the outside of the trans case start it at the 3 turn base and adjust as required.

thats a good idea to takle 1 thing at a time..... so i disable 3rd gear and close the second and open it 1/2 turn... ok cool.

if it doesn't open after 3 half turns then it might be starting from second... this is the part i didn't understand (starting point)

anyway...ill try what you said first and hopefully it works.

I found my shift set screw was all the way in and of course there was no shifting after resetting grub screw out to proper factory setting i still have no shifting. engine has the rpm's but am running a short course on a thick lawn area. after reviewing other posters some one mentioned that there could be an excess of loctite on set screws that may be preventing the shifting to occure. only way to know for sure is to strip down and examine. coud the lack of shifting also be due to slipper being too tight? as i have not noticed any movement there from new. it has plenty of low end tourque so I'm assuming it isnt shifting into 2nd what do the expert think?
