well that is a stock diff there, the BP diffs have 29 tooth ring and 9 tooth pinions.... nuthin wrong with those long as they are shimmed right you already have the alloy diff cups....., for the bones I am not sure how to tell.

The xl and flux dog bones have 11mm ball ends, the x only has 9mm ball ends from memory.
The BP diffs have a black ring gear and it's machined, the X and the new XL use sintered ring gear.(more of a goldish look)
The machined BP diffs are the stronger ones, both are 29/9 the pic is a sintered ring gear goldish colour, like JAM said if shimmed right you shouldn't have any problems.image.webp

Supposed to have a ton of parts come in today and tomorrow...Hopefully some more progress throughout the week, I just ordered my diff grease, bearing kit, and shock oil on fri day though so we will see how long that takes to get here.

Does FLM have any more parts left after you raided their cache? 😉 Looks like a nice build. Keep up the documentation, we're all eager to see where you go with this.

I know aluminum is "bad" but I can't help it, it looks nice.... besides I think every thing I got so far is functional in some way or another.

Lookin pretty sexy @joegibbstruck. Hope all that alloy stays nice for awhile. I will say, I have chrome plated TVPs on my SS and they are still in great shape from a cosmetic standpoint.

Alloy in the right places is a bonus not a detriment, personally I love the strength and look of alloy on my rigs, although I do know the difference between bling and useful.....You are going the right way with this build Joe, just remember to stay away from alloy parts like arms and other items that need to flex and break instead of bending and being useless...

Lol I "may" or "may not" have ordered flm extended arms and shock towers....But everything else will be plastic... In the end I plan on having 2 trucks, one for all out bashing which is in the mail and needs a overhaul.....and another that's good all around, hence the LCG tvps and the widened stance. Looking for something that is tough yet can corner hard without flipping. I still need to order my tires and a lid.

The a-arms I would consider using only on a rig that doesn't see much action. You can probably get by with those shock towers assuming all of the other components are plastic. It is possible to yank the mounts for the shock towers out of the diff housing since there is no give anymore. That being said, I like the FLM shock towers.

This is your truck, put it together how you want and be damned the consequences! :wacky:🙂

How do you get the diff apart to get at the bearings? I remove the 4 screws on the ring gear, but then what it doesn't seem to budge.

On another note......it's PART TIME!

Hpi aluminum big bores

Flm servo mounts

Ofna servo horn

Hpi purple 3 shoe clutch

Flm shock towers

Flm extended arms......still iffy on this one, they may change to rpm arms

Motor saver filter, with 2 replacements, and outer screen

the ring gear should come right off exposing the internals of the diff, it may be stuck a bit but a little wiggling and should come off, remember to use a new gasket on it when ya put it all back together......

I have 2 trucks now, and only 1 motor saver.... I'm getting sucker in real quick, my second truck isn't ever here yet and I was looking on Craigslist for another 🙂

Btw I did get the diff apart and have the gears sitting in Chem dip right now so thanks for the advise jam.

More parts

Ofna linkage kit

Ofna slider kit

Ofna 250cc tank

Dynamite 6v 1700 mah hump pack

Dynamite 086 pipe.....think I got the wrong side though, time for some redneck engineering.

I guess I forgot to order my battery box, not sure which one I need

Also need to find stand offs for the tank.

Still waiting on bearings, shims, grease, shock oil...and probably a few more I forgot about.

Ordered what should be the last of my parts this morning. Hopefully anyway, this project is getting expensive.....on a side note my other truck and spare parts should be here today.

Today my bearings, and diff grease came in....so I made a little progress. Got the rear diff rebuilt, shimmed, and back together with the flm arms. Got the shocks mounted, but still need to oil them. And have to pull it back apart when my hpi suspension upgrade shows up.

I won't lie...I am a little jealous.

There isn't anything to be jealous about lol, its just a work in progress

Another key component came in today...
Hpi racing suspension upgrade

Ups and mail hasn't ran yet, expecting a few more packages today.....at least now I can focus on putting the suspension back together for the final time.

Anyone know where i can find some longer turnbuckles? With the extended arms, the ones that came with the hpi kit won't work, there to short.
