Hey everyone. this is my first post so ill tell you a bit about myself . I am a seasoned racer that just picked up a Savage XL as a play toy/brasher. I have yet to even start the truck and its almost completely apart. I like to do this on all pre assembled trucks or buggies i get because you never know how lazy the person was who put these things together. anyways i am very happy with this truck.


So for the suspension. the stock shocks are off and will never see run time on my truck. i got the alum. big bores on order, and I'm really considering the full suspension kit offered by HPI. I was going to hold off on this mod for a wile but after reading what you guys are saying about it i think its a must have for some one like me who is used to a well handling race buggy.

now for my few questions. Does the suspension mod kit use the same size bearings as the stock hub carriers? and what kind of O-ring seals do the big bores take? P3?

whelcome to the forum also get rid or the 5.9 they suck get the k4.6 or axail .28or.32 or picco even better
 
thanks for the welcome. I'm going to stick it out with the k5.9 for the time being. some like it and some hate it. we will see how i like it. I have been looking at engines but would rather get it to handle then ill get a new mill.
 
That's what I'm doing with mine. One tip for the k5.9, give it plenty of time to break-in! I tried to tune mine too soon and it became a nightmare to get it running right and holding a good temp. It's my belief that the motor just wasn't broken in enough because after 1-2 gallons the mill got much easier to deal with, and I actually have no problems with it now. Starts and runs good, holds really good temps, and seems like it puts out good power, to me anyway LOL. Going on six gallons and the only issue I have that I REALLY dislike is the HPI Pull-Starts. I have had horrible luck with them and they are a major pain to rebuild. I say no matter which break-in method you use, wait till after one gallon to performance tune it. It's a thirsty mill when you run it rich so it won't take as long as you might think. Good luck with it, and give us some pics once you start modding it!
