New savage xl 5.9

I just purchased a savage xl 5.9 for 350$ from a local kid. Seemed nice enough just didn't use it any more and I'm looking to get back into it after being out for some Years.

He said It didn't have reverse and was 2 speed? It has the older tf-20u receiver.

I couldn't find anything on a xl 5.9 with a 2 speed.

Can someone help? All I have ever owned is a traxxas and I don't know if I got a good deal or what

Far as I know they are all 3 speed. Perhaps he just never had his shift points adjusted correctly.

If I was you I would look inside g/box to confirm & also examine gears/one way bearing, if you find two that’s your answer you have 3 speed tranny!

Yes just pop the top cover of and have a look

Open up the gear box cover and take a pic of the gears in their and post it and I’ll tell you what you got

The three speed tranny has the screws on the top of the case to split it and the 2 speed does not if I’m not mistaken

I have a two speed and the screws are on top to remove the spur gear which also exposes the transmission gears for removal or maintenance
