As some know I have been into ATV riding for a few years. Started out on an old 1987 Yamaha 200 utility quad, then picked up a 99' Polaris Sportsman 500, then wound up wrecking it. After I wrecked it, the thing sat for a good 18 months. Then my auto teacher said he wanted to trade with me if I fixed it. So I fixed all the cosmetics parts of it and put some new a arms on the back to fix the major toe out it had (bent frame maybe also). So we finally finished it up and traded....got a 2001 Honda 400ex out of it. Never raced, always used around his house in the trails.

Here is it when I picked it up.

Don't have any pictures of it updated but I got some smaller tires put on the rear for the track. Also have some AC nerf bars, Pro-Taper handle bars, grips, ez-pull clutch lever, K&N air filter, jet kit, number plates, and possibly a set of beadlocks coming for it. Parts should be here and installed on Friday. First race is this Saturday!

Well my net has been down for the past week + and missed a lot. Actually going on 2 weeks now. Anyways I got a bunch of parts in and installed. Here is a list...

* K&N Air filter (lid removed)
* Tag CR High handlebars
* Tag waffle hand grips
* Ez-Pull clutch lever
* Clutch cable
* Tether Kill Switch
* Parking Brake block off kit

Also removed all the stock switches/buttons etc for the ignition, lights, etc. Now I just have one button on the handlebars and that is to start it along with the stock key switch and neutral light.

And had my first race last weekend.....Placed 2nd overall in the ATV novice. Sorry for the stuff in the pics, track photographer does that to his pics so we have to buy them.

Totally forgot about changing the rear tires out. Those are the stock honda tires that came on it back in 01'

Those vampires were NOT working out on the track, way too tall. Although I would love to get some smaller tires still these are way better than what I had. Going to have to save up for new tires and run what I have for now

Old time fun. I had days of fun with my Banshee and 250 dirt bikes. It came to an end when I got into a bad accident on the track. I recommend doing no more than two heats in one event. I entered 2 events totaling two heats each (2) 250 cc heats (2) banshee heats. I had won the 250cc series already, so now I was on to the final for the Banshee heat. I was so tired and did not clear the double, which is normally an easy thing when I am fresh. I lost control of my Banshee and ended up being Airvac to the hospital. I spent 3 days in the hospital and by the time I got out my wife sold all my Yeeehaa stuff. That was about 8 years ago. Good luck and be safe.

Alex you really think I'm gonna miss the world finals? Lol. Nah I'm definitely going to the finals still....no worries on that. Yeah we do 2 motos. Each moto is 4 laps a we have a 4 lap practice before the motos start. The races are held at night so it keeps it a bit cooler also which is nice.

So I just got my nerf bars in. I went with a set of AC racing nerfs with heel guards and pro pegs. Now I haven't gotten to ride with them yet but so far the quality is OVER THE TOP and I can jump on these things without a budge....even the nets

Thanks Jason.

So when I first got the quad I noticed I could "rock" it side to side very slightly. Figured it might be normal or something small. Well it has since gotten MUCH worse as today I can almost rock it maybe 1/2"-3/4" side to side.

Anyways I picked up the rear and set it on a jack, grabbed a tire and wiggled it up and down...a good 1/2-3/4" of play in the axle....Which means 1 day before the race and I have blown axle bearings of which I find out at 9pm and no shop is going to have axle bearings in stock...

Get to run what I have and hope it holds up....

Well it's been a while but I got a few more mods done to the quad.

Got a supertrapp IDS2 muffler on it along with a 440 big bore kit with 11:1 compression.

Got it broke in the other day and went racing last night. Brought 2nd place home last night. Night and day difference. With the stock exhaust/engine the 450's were always about 7-8 lengths aahead of my by the first turn, this time we was all next to each other, maybe 1 bike length between the 4 of us.

This isn't from a race but from Thursday night's practice....one of the other racer's mom took these pics.

Well just a little update....Haven't had a computer for the past 2 months so a bit behind on everything!

The current season is a little over half-way through, and with luck being on my side for once I am in the lead for points! Currently have 5 more races to go....other guy that races and battle each other for the wins, his quad is down so hopefully he gets it going so we can continue our battle.

I have upgraded the shocks to the Honda 450r front shocks, kept the stock rear shock. Also ordered a Lonestar axle, going to widen it up 4" on the rear. Instead of using the stock tires I have been on I swapped out to a set of 18x8x10 Holeshot MXR6 tires and some bead locks. Also running the MXR6's on the front.

Ill see what pics I can dig up tonight. Quad hasn't changed much so nothing new to that.

It's hard to do anything on here without a computer. Phone takes forever to do anything...

Well I must say that the 400ex has come quite a long ways lately....

I recently picked up a set of 450r front shocks for it and a Lonestar +4 adjustable axle and a bumper for it.

Will get some pictures up sometime....

The season is about to come to an end with I believe 3 more races..

Currently in 1st for the season and ahead by about 60ish points.....

As soon as the season ends I will be doing a complete tear down of it and it will be getting powdercoated. I will be doing it myself for my senior project....

Thinking of doing the frame blue and keeping the yellow plastics or going with a red frame and getting some full bore or maier black plastics.

nice pics man, looks like your working your way to the top on that 400x, i think you should race a 250r or a banshee (well their not good for mx, but great for drag racing and dunes lol) idk i just have this thing with 2 strokes. I had 6 banshees, and i still have one of them
