Hi all,
just ordered my new SAVAGE X SS without engine so now I have to choose which one.
I've been reading threads for 2 hours now and I have to say that I am confused.
Should I go for an STS .30, AXIAL .32, FORCE .32 OR the OS .30. ?
And which pipe is the best too ?
I am new to Car nitro engines as I fly airplane and heli models till now, using engines like OS and Saito and never bother tuning any of them as speed is not so important for me in the air, and if you want more you just go for a bigger engine.
So what do I have to choose now ?
Please help , and if you have any questions considering planes and helis you are welcome.:bigsmilie:

Thank's

Thanos.

You Have Made It Hard On Yourself, Those Are All Great Mills.

To Narrow It Down, Sts & Os Are Some Of My Favorites.

I Have Ran Niether So, My Opinion Means Little.

Just From Reading About Them.

You Want To Go Fast, See Which One Will Rev The Highest. Imo

IF YOU WANT SOLID COMPARISON GO HERE / http://www.nitroreview.com/TheDatabase/homeengines.cfm

I run the OS .30 great mill not sure how it compares to the others, was running a 1 peace pipe, but figured out it had to much back pressure and the mill didnt run top end like it should. So for now I'm running a ribbed pipe, untill I can find a 1 peace more suted for it. I'm running 17/49 gears. This mill dosnt get good till you run a gallon threw it then its a power house. bottom end its a brute massive power, top end fast as hell.
on a scale of 1 to 10, I would give it a 10.
ease of tuning 10
power, massive axle breaking tork 10
looks, its a sexy looking thing
it will ideal a hole tank of gas with out stalling or loading up.
very user freindly
gas milage 8 its a gas gussler.
As allways a great motor from OS.
also welcome to the forum nice to have you here enjoy, lost of get people if ya need any help....

If you want the fastest, the rb concepts 928 or the novarossi 528 would produce ungodly power but good luck keeping diffs in the savy. I tried the 928 2 weeks ago and blew both diffs within 10 minutes. I am running the axial 32 in it and is plenty fast. If you want top end go with a 3 speed. I am also running 17/47 gearing which seems to be the best of both worlds.

OK I decided to buy the OS.
Not because I think that it's the best of all but because I know these engines. I use them on my planes and helis. Very reliable and can find spares everywhere, anytime.
Now my question is which one ?
OS has 3 versions of 30 VG engine. Does the VG (P) SR will be OK having in mind that I want to use a roto start ?
Thank's again,
Thanos.

And of course once you figure all that out and it is not fast enough for you anymore then you can send it to someone like rb to mod it and make it just insane.

2 vertions the VG P uses the .25 backplate, the newer vertion has a backplate allready on it. If you use these mills in your hellie's and plan"s then you should be rite at home with this engine. like crawlin said, if you wanted insain power out of it have it moded. But stock has plent of tork and speed.

OK here is my problem :
A friend of mine just ordered the TAMIYA TNX 5.2 R and I've been challenged to a race. A side by side race, 100 meters straight , for best top speed.
I know I don't have any chance right now as this Tamiya thing is very fast ( they claim of a top speed of 55 + miles ) but what can I do to stand with respect near it.
Here is my savage set up :
SAVAGE XSS with OS 30VG and stock pipe running 30% nitro.
Standard 17/47 gear.
Any suggestions are welcomed , but please don't tell me to buy another engine cause this one is brand new, just after break in.
Thank's ,
Thanos.

Challeng him to a jump off. The tnx will fall apart where the savage will take it all day long. Or play joust were you hit each other head on. Not a good idea by the way. The tnx probably would loose that one though. Tamiya is not know for real flexible/strong plastics. There hardware is also junk. I have owned a few tamiya products. I like them but nothing is as tough as a savage. Savages are built to bash. You have to build them to race.

try 17/49 gearing with the OS. I found it to be one of the best gear choices for my os. I picked up both my bottom and top end just a tad more than when i ran 17/47. Allso remember with the OS it will take a gallon and a half or more, befor this mill will come alive. I have run my buds revo with a .26 picco and have beaten him.
one thing once this mill has fully broken in you will have to feather the gas from a dead stop or rolling, as it has so much tork it will easly go sliding on it lid if you are not carfull.
I really don't thing your buddys truck will stomp you.. and if it does not by much

OK thank you guys very much for your help. Any tuned pipe which will really make a difference compared to my hpi tuned ( stock XSS ) ?

Thanos.
