Hi,

These are my first two paint jobs, actually first time spray painting anything, exce[pt for touching up this or that with rustolium.

There are lots of mistakes, most because of either applying the liquid mask too thick because of either 1 or 2 very thick coats or too thin, I have learned it should be lots of thin coats. The thin coats caused the rough edges. Oh, also something you don't want to do is apply the liquid masking over surface's you already painted. it pulls up the paint in spots...

heres the first

One thing that did come out nice was the colors but my camera isn't showing them as they look. Also I want to thank Samisavage for all of his help with all of my questions!!

:resp: They look real nice Wister. Great job! Colors work nice together and the mask job is something that takes a little to get down, as long as you've learned, you're ok. Great jobs on both your firsts and I'm waiting to see more.

They both looks great imo!Is that a Red Metallic paint on the rear of the first one? Thanks,Dave

HThanks guys,

Pineapple it is spaz stix "Deep red. gold (put on heavy), royal blue, and blue on both trucks.

There is some black outline on the first truck I painted on with a small brush, then and this was a nother thing I did wrong, I sprayed, or tried to, spray a fine mist for shadow under the royal blue, it didnt look like much when I put it on but as you can see it is hard to even see the royal blue in the first truck. I probably had it correct the first time I went around but it looked like it was too light, so I went around a second time and that was oviously too much. I kind of experimented on it after I saw how bad the edges were comming up, then I tried to recoat the liquis mask and do it over but it pulled the paint up on me in spots, really big mistake.

I like the psychodelic paint on the jeep...very sexy baby...austin powers would love that thing. All round good job on both, really like the colors on the pickup body.

nice paint jobs, alot better then mine.Good job really like the pickup

great job!! i can only hope when i get around to painting a rc body it comes out that good!!

Damn Wister those look GREAT!! Ok, I'm on my way over for a lesson..Did you use an air brush or cans? Also, did you precut paint masks for the savage body or freehand it? I'm dying to try a paint job like that, but still a little hesitant.
Might have to hit you up for a step by step.. 🙂

Thanks guys,

I bought a pretty cheap testors airbrush and did it all with that. the jeep is a spax stix mask called "screech", and the truck is as close to the design that comes on the savage x's like this

the first time I tried to draw the design by putting the clear body over the the one that came with my RTR and tracing it on the outside of the film, actually it was easier to put a mark on some end points and use a straight edge to fill in the lines (I used a old credit card) If you use a sharpie and mess up you can wipe it off with alochol and try again.

thanks again

So did you use a liquid mask then or tape?
Ive got a clear body here that Ive been dying to paint, just cant decide on how to do it. Now after see how great yours came out I'm itching to go paint it.

On the truck I used liquid mask, I did actually use tape on the larger areas. It is best to cover the whole thing, or most of it then use an exacto and cut around the edges, it is tricky getting it on just right, I had problems with it, I have read you need to put several thin layers of mask on, not one thick layer, it is hard to cut and comes up on you. the jeep I did have to hand draw parts of it, places where the masking came up, like in the creases and when using 2 different peices of the bought mask I drew some lines between them and used the liquid on it, actually used qute a bit of liquid on the jeep too. I had best luck with a brand called fasmask, there was another I tried and had more trouble with but I am pretty sure it is because I didnt have it on correctly.

Wow, my first one was Dodge Ram one color, the second a Proline Dessert Rat two colors. Damn you got skills. Great job. Peace.

Wister you should take pictures or video the paint job as you are doing it.
And I'm sure its going to turn out as good if not better then the other 2..
