well, i was finishing up installing me engine, i sealed it yesterday, and i noticed this weird piece of what looked like trash on the bottom of the engine plate. so i started looking around and found part of the slipper clutch sticking out of where it, well, slips.
this is what it looked like.

and ideas on what caused this?

I would say excessive slipping leading to excessive heat maybe which has melted the glue. Once you get it back up and running give it a spin and just check how hot the spur is getting.

i have 3 or 4 spurs in stock, and it was properly tightened down. the only thing i can think of, is it got wet or something and slipped too much. its gotta get warmer out before i get it out and running again. it was 40 here monday, and its been down below freezing with snow the rest of the week.

Getting wet could explain it.

I would bet moisture as well. It looks like a plastic spur and if thats the case, the kind of heat it would take to do that to the pad would surely melt the inside of the spur also. Lucky you caught that before the spur got damaged.
