I finally got some 30% trinity fuel today for my new powerhouse...the LRP. It is about 30 degrees outside and I am trying to break that bad boy in using the heat cycle method. I have the head wrapped in aluminum foil and a sock wrapped around that. I have already run 3 five minute cycles, but I couldn't get my temps up. On the first two cycles, I got to about 120-130. On the third cycle, I ran it a little harder (more throttle) on the savage stand and leaned the HSN out about a 1/2 turn. My temps only got up to about 170. I know it is important to get the temps up to operating range (200 or so). Do you think I should just slowly lean out the HSN until I get there? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try putting a sock around the head. It should bring the temps up. You don't want to lean it out too much during the break in.

And the temps still wont come up? I know the LRP runs cool but you should be able to get it up to 200. You don't want to restrict the airflow but you might need to cover the airfilter a little to keep some of the cold air out. Do you have the body on? If not try that, it might help.

Try it with the body on and see if that helps. It may create enough warm air under the body to get the temp up to 200. Let us know how you make out.

be careful for me to tune my lrp i have four on cars two in boxes still i went on one only 1/8 turn i was tuned great the other ones may be not even half of turn and i was there if temps don't come up what for a good day. good luck thanks they are nice mills for the money you will be happy..

Thanks. I just think it is too stinking cold outside. I ran four cycles today. The last one I got up to 200 but only for half a minute. I think I will call it a day and finish when it is slightly warmer.

I'm trying to keep up with the break in's I've also got the LRP not even out of the box and I'm edgy.... I've got COLD weather out here in Ontario lots of snow and it sound like your having problems getting the temps up. Dang it I guess I'll wait till end of march early April. Oh can I break in the LRP on my home made stand? I figure you have more control with the temp right there. I'm also using the heat method. Cheers!!

The heat cycle method is really all about getting the temps up, right? So if you can do it on a stand, I don't see why you shouldn't/couldn't? I think on a stand however, it is important to not get carried away with the throttle. There is no friction (ground) so the engine will rev higher if you're not careful. It might be bad on a new motor to rev it too high...just a guess.

I am gathering that the lrp runs cool am i right? I am getting ready to buy the LRP can anyone tell me how it dose is it a good mill ect?

Is trinity monster horsepower (20% nitro) a good kind of fuel for the LRP.In the manual it said to use 25% or higher.Does any one on here use 20% nitro for it.

the only reason they say to run 25% or higher is because the head is shimmed for it. you may need to look for info on that . it should run just fine on 20% though.

If you are having a hard time getting temps up you can lean the LSN a tad. During break in you are at idle to about half throttle. Heating the engine up first will help things out. Remember t oreturn the piston to the BDC position when cooling. Higher nitro will run cooler temps then the lower nitro.

Do you guys shut off the engine first before you make adjustments to the needles or can you leave the engine running while tuning.

You can make the adjustments while the engine is running. Just remember to not make drastic changes, turn the needles at only 1/8 increments at a time. It takes a few seconds for the changes to take effect.

I figured one reason it was harder to get temps up was because I am using 30% fuel rather than 20%. I have remembered to keep the piston at BDC when cooling....that is one thing I probably didn't remember everytime when I broke in the original motor.

I ran another tank today...broke it up into two cycles. It was close to 40 degrees outside, not windy, and the sun was out. I had the head wrapped in aluminum and a sock around that. I ended up leaning the HSN another 1/8 turn, probably about 3/4 turn total from factory settings. I was able to finally get my temps up to the 200s. I am going to do this for one more tank before I start tuning for performance.

These things are amazing. I had a picco .26 in mine before, went to the lrp spec3 .28. After 4 tanks of breaking it in all I can say is wow. Ive also got the buku pipe on it. The thing just sky flips over its power is awesome. A co-worker has an mgt 8.0. We raced yesterday, he slightly got me out of the hole because I had to feather the throttle, within 15 feet I passed him. This thing is crazy fast.

This thing is crazy. I ran tanks 6 and 7 today. I am still running rich but when it gets to the end of the tank and is leaned out a bit (from half tank lean unfortunatley) it has some crazy power.

I run 25% in my lrp runs good when you guys run 30% can you see and feel the differance. also with higher nitro are you suppose to ad shims.. the lrp only has one shim ??? thank you..
