Hey everyone, I have the hot bodies carbon fiber chassis for my savage, and yesterday i noticed that I had a crack in it. So now I am looking for something different. I guess my only requirements would be, Standard length, (no extended or lcg) Black, and really tough!! Any ideas would be great. I saw the RC Solutions tvp's, and they look pretty good, has anyone used them? Thanks in advance!!

I don't know if you have a powdercoat shop or anodizer near you but you could get a set of the stock TVP's done either way I believe. I have a few around me and was thinking of getting it done in black or the purple parts on my road car done in a candy red. Not sure what else you could do...I will do some researching, I have seen them in black but not many

Hey Zach, The stock X TVPs are decent. There are places to get them powder coated but a suggestion could be is to go to your local farm store or parts store and get that under coating in a spray can along with some brake clean. Use the Brake clean and clean all the oils/grease off them and coat them with the undercoat it would be durable and look nice. It would give it a mat looking Finnish. There are lots of other option's out there for you.

Can we also have you post a pict of your cracking in your CF plate.

Thanks Dave, he really doesnt want the LCG but they do give him a great option thought and a great product. I would have linked mine as well however they are LCG.

Opps sorry I didn't notice that he did not want LCG. They are black though but yours do look better- I love that Carbon stuff you have.

I have seen a few in black, and I really do like the stock hpi savage x tvp's, but I don't know if they will fit on my older savage 25? I think i remember that if I was gonna use the x tvp's that I would have to get the x front and rear bulk heads. however, I was looking at the x tvp's and I don't see why they wouldn't work? Does anyone know if they will work?

Oh... and I know that we have a powder coating shop here but I don't think we have an anodizing shop. I'm in Missoula Montana.

You should have no issue using the X TVP's on the older bulkheads. However you may need to drill out one of the holes for the end as the screw went from the bottom to the top or however it is. They will work.

Sorry so many posts.... but if I knew how to post a pic i would, I'm pretty new to all this. and it didn't crack because of a bad crash or anything, I had to grind a small groove in the right side plate to get my engine mount to clear. It cleared with the 17/47 gearing, but the 18/47 that i am using pushed the mount into the plate. So my grind job was apparently a little too aggressive and it weakened that spot.

Awesome!!! thats kinda what I was thinking... I just wasn't sure. That seems to be the cheapest way to go. and I have never seen any of the guys I run with break theirs. Thanks for all your help guys! I really appreciate it.

hang on...you'll need one other thing with the Savage X tvps

you'll need the "cutaway" engine plate brace, as the X lowers the center of gravity, and move the rear dogbone closer to the engine plate...or you can modify your current ones if you have access to a hacksaw...

there was no top-to-bottom screw change that I'm aware of...the tvps should work just fine...as I said...only other concern is the engine plate brace...

ok, ill look into that. do you think it would be cool to grind or cut a section out so that it clears? or should I just get a new brace?

ok cool. I will get those braces from smf. so about those screws we are talking about... on my truck the screw is on the top and that little pin on the bulkhead is on the bottom. I guess I'm just not understanding why that would be a problem. the holes seem to be the same size, so I don't see why the x plates wouldn't work. But i don't know... If you find anything else out please let me know. And larsen I checked out your page and your tvp's are awesome!! I would totally be getting those, but I'm a little short on cash right now. Thanks again for all the info!

I will defenatly check when I get home. I know the old 21/25 savage is on the top I just haven't taken my X appart for a while. I just cant remember. I thought the holes were different sizes as well. Maybe I am thinking of something else.

The screw location is different between the models but will not affect the instalation of the X TVP's onto the 21/25 bulkheads or vise versa. Here are picts I just took of the difference granted I am using FLM's on one and PRC TVP's on the other but anyhow.

good illustration larsen...thanks man...I stand humbly corrected 🙂 that's what I get for stubbornly using .25 dif cases and bulkheads exclusively...LOL

but as we've both mentioned, it won't matter one to the other, and should mount to either style equally as well...
