I Have The K4.6 Motor With Rotostart And I Am Using The Traxxas Top Fuel 20% But That Motor Does Not Perform With That Gas And Also It Makes My Oneway Bearing Slip About Every 2nd Tank So I Have To Tear The Motor Off And Clean It That Gets Pretty Crappy. So What Is The Nitro Gas To Run With This Motor????????
 
Traxxas fuel is crap in my opinion. you can use O'Donnell, Morgan, trinity blue thunder .ect. i would run 30% with a cold plug in summer and a medium or hot in winter. my suggestion is get quarts and try different ones and see what it likes. stay away from anything with more than 12% oil.
 
I'm running morgans sidewinder backyard basher 20% but it has 16% oil which most say is to high so I'm looking for a different brand to try as well, to see if i can get even more performance out of my little 4.1 i did try a quart of the blue thunder and my temps shot up alot no matter what i did, finally got some sidewinder and temps went back to normal.. but there the only 2 i've tried!! but as i said my engine is the 4.1 so I'm just running 20% with a med glow plug (r4)

I to have used Traxxas 20% and switched away from it because of OWB problems as well. I currently run Bryon 30% and love it. It is run with cold plugs.
 
Thanks Guys I Will Try Some Diffrent Fuel And Let You Know What Works Best.
 
Monster 30% Is The Fuel I Bought But I Have Not Been Able To Run My Truck Yet (waiting For Bulk Heads) Broke The Hell Out Of Mine🙁 I Will Let You Guys Know How I Like It Thanks Bros.
 
My LHS told me today that I wouldnt see much of a performance difference between 20 & 30%. He said all it does is put extra stress on the engine with almost unnoticeable performance increase. He recommend sticking with 20% Anyone have any thoughts on what he said?

I didn't see a BIG power increase but for some reason my motors ran better with it. Also it is only $2 more for it here.....
 
Same here as far as the price goes. Its only $2 more for the 30%. LHS said the stress it places on the engine isnt worth the slight performance increase. I have a little over a gallon of 30% left, then I'm going to try the 20 again and see if I can notice any difference
 
i only run 30% anymore do to it takes less leaning to get the same performance as 20% that causes you to have lower temps. i haven't over stressed a motor yet by using fuel. that is the thing you have to remember. they are going to push the things they like and think they know about. it is all subjective. just like you read on a forum. Just remember to retune for the 20% you will be lean.
 
i run the trinty 30% the same that hpi 25 runs. I have not heard anything about the stress that 30% puts on a motor. But i can say that mega is right that your rig runs cooler. I run it in my 4.6ho and my 4.1. They both run great for me and hold a tune also are easy to tune as well. Like mega said its all how people feel about what they like.
 
I run trinity monster horsepower 20 percent in my picco 28 p3, and it is the best i have used. tried the traxxas fuel in previous engines but didnt like it as well as the trinity.
 
a hobby shop near me swears by wildcat eliminator!! apparently the company that makes it is the same company that makes the power fuel for hpi i haven't tried it but he swears by it and its the same price at his shop as the sidewinder i use so i know he,s not just trying to get me to buy a more expensive fuel!! and i did some reading on it and it has the purest % of nitro in it at like 99.9% and supposedly it has a better quality oil in it!!
 
New to the Savage world (still breaking it in) but on my other nitro's (NTC3 and Nitro Rustler) I did not like Traxxas fuel at all it's got gummy/tacky lubricants that leave a mess and screw with One-way Bearings. I've run Wildcat Eliminator and Trinity Monster HP (20% and 30%) and aside from the percentages I like those fuels equally cant really tell the difference between them.

My LHS carries the same fuel and I swear by it. I've tried Magnum fuel 20%, (another LHS) I thought that was good fuel. It also had a very sweet scent.

I also tried Sidewinder 20% & 25%.(another LHS) My opinion is it's garbage my 4.1 smelled like it was frying, no matter what I did.

Anyway, I use Wildcat 25%, I want to try 35% it's the other % they carry.
Does anyone have a link for Wildcat fuel, couldn't find it. Peace.
 
I went with O'Donnell 20% Race Fuel. I had some people tell me that it was a great fuel to run for Nitro's. Hopefully they are right lol, if not, ill just switch up later to something else. Trial and Error, thats what makes this hobby fun.
 
i usually run my own "special blend" 50/50 mix of sidewinder pro race (30/10) and backyard basher(20/16) which give me the 25% nitro that hpi reccomends and 13%oil which is a lil easier on the one way but not too light on oil for the engine ,with the 10% oil that the sidewinder has it is quite easy to kill an engine!!!(in as little as 1 tank you can easily burn up an engine if you are even a lil too lean)i like the little safety margin the extra oil gives.
btw i have the backyard basher for my rustler and revo, and the sidewinder for my race truck (the st-1) .........so far about 6 gals plus on my k4.6 and no oneway problems yet (but i did have to de-glaze the starter shaft about half a gallon ago)
 
I switched to the Odonnels 30% based on everyones recommnedations, but I wasnt too happy with it. I didnt see a decrease in temps as I had hoped and the fuel seemed to leave a lot of sticky oil residue on everything. I'm using Trinity Monster HP 30% right now and it seems ok. I have to wait for the weather to warm up to see if there is any difference in engine temps, but there is no residue left after running which is a plus. My LHS recommended staying with 20% though. He said I wouldnt see any performance increase for the extra $$ or the extra wear on the engine. So I'm not sure what % to stick with. So far though the Trinity seems much to be a much cleaner burning fuel.
 
i finally got to try some of the wildcat eliminator fuel and i have to admit my lhs wasnt lying my truck ran awsome!! i noticed a bit more power probabally due to a lower oil content then the sidewinder i use and after reading more and comparing i noticed it has the purest nitro content of them all at 99.9% most are about 97-98% and the oil they put in it is of a better quality then most fuels out there as well!! but like most things with this hobby it comes down to a matter of choice as you'll ask a question and get 5 different opinions lol
 
Hey savdog ,I have the K4.6 also.You are not going to believe this ,but I broke mine in on Traxxas 20 because thats what I run in my TC3. Wel;l low and behold I had the exact same problem with the one way.I talked to the guru at the lhs and He expl. that the oil content in the traxxas fuel is very high and vey rich,great for high rev .18 but hell in the 4.6.He also said that it is a very good way to break in your mill but when you change the oneway to Try o,donnel or HPI ,I chose the hpi 20, changed the oneway and have nothing but fun with it since.The hpi fuel runs very consistant temp and seems much easier to tune properly.Like i said I had the exact problem for the exact reason.So I know this will help.
 
O'Donnell RTR 20% is what I run and never had one-way problems. I have heard bad things about Trinity form my LHS ,something about how the blend they sell to us is not the same as what the factory racers use,but that was second hand hear say so....
