Is the JR XR3 a good radio?

I'm still have the stock radio and receiver, and I see that several people upgrade them. Ive tried to read up on them, but don't really understand which are good, not good, etc. What do you guys think of this JR XR3 and receiver? What noticable differences would I see from the stock one? Any info or links would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not too familiar with the JR XR3. Is that the FM synthesized one? If it is it will work similarly to the Spektrum, meaning no crystals.
I'm using Spektrum radios and it makes it much easier. You don't have to worry about frequencies and there is no glitching at all. Also the Spektrum has a built in failsafe. It only covers signal loss not a low battery but it works great.
 
You are right Keith. It is synthesized. It is a good radio for the money. If it is any indication of it's capabilities, the manual is 38 pages long.
 
thanks guys, you convinced me. I'm going to go for it. Not just yet........forgot to ask, do I have to change the steering and throttle/brake servos?? I have the hitec 645 and the stock steering one is on my throttle/brake

The JR site says its discontinued and doesnt say if its synthesized or not.
I would say the synthesized or the Spektrum is the way to go. Then you never have to worry about frequency conflicts.

No it's not synthesized. If you look at the pic of the rx, you can see the crystal. If it was synthesized, you'd see two rotary dials in the upper left hand corner of the rx. Your best bet Wa2ruff, is waiting and saving up to get a spektrum (2.4ghz) radio system. Spektrum brand and Futaba both have new 2.4ghz radios coming out within the next couple months. That's what I'm doin. But, if you wanna stay with a FM band radio, after I get my new one, I'll have a Jr Racing XS3 I won't need anymore which is synthesized.

You will with synthesized but not spektrum(2.4ghz) or almost any radio that uses a FM frequency. Mine glitches depending on the area and so does my buddy's radio (Futaba 3PK non 2.4ghz) depending on the area. But, most definately, spektrum(2.4ghz) is the way to go.
 
Hey xtreme. What new radio is spektrum coming out with? Any details? I have the DX3.0 right now.

I applogize PROFUSLEY xtremsavage! I misread what model he posted (I though he was asking about the XS3 which apparently you own and which DOES NOT have rotary dials in upper left hand corner although it is synthesized).

that is the really old model, spend the extra casha nd get a XS3 i have 2 of them and a xr3 (new models) very good radio IMO good feel lots of good options and never had interferance problems

new receivers are pretty small too

The rx's that come with the xs3 are about average size ( I guess). But, you can use the smaller rx that comes with the XS3 Pro, cuz that is what I did. It helped a pretty good bit with the install area I had to work with.
 
i,ve used the xs3 pro for a year or so now and i,m very happy with it,i had the spectrum early model and went to the jr because of probs with the spectrum that have been fixed now.If i was buying one now and cash was not a prob i would buy the nomadio first and the spectrum for a second choice.
 
Great info guys, I think I will hold off for now. Xtremsavage, Once you get your new one, if you still don't have a use for your XS3 maybe we can make a deal and Ill buy it off ya. I'm not racing and wont be anytime soon, as this hobby isnt very big in my area, I just go out in the back of my house where there is flat grass with some jumps, and a huge field and woods that I bash a little in. I just take it out with my shepherd and he chases it around and stuff, so I don't really need a top of the line radio. But I would like one that is better than the stock, so just let me know xtremsavage!
 
No prob. I'll keep you in mind. Another reason I'm switching to spektrum(2.4ghz), is the fact that my little speed demon (shumacher fusion 28), needs all the Tx to Rx distance it can get along with glitchless reception.
