erm guys, i need some guide here.. i don't have a clue of why this happen, both my idler gear and drive gear destroyed. to my surprise, one of the spur teeth also broken. all happen at the same time. my tranny was sealed all the time so i don't think it was debris or rock destroy it. ball bearings for idler and drive gear also in perfect shape. what actually happen? can anyone tell me? tq in advance :stressed: :stressed::stressed:

Wow nice carnage! That isnt from a nitro savage is it? And is that red stuff grease all over the gears? Or savage blood? lol

londoner, it is from my nitro savage x ss.. and yea, its cover with the savage blood (a.k.a grease) lol

oh yes, the mill is STS .30.. not stock K4.6 anymore..

hmm, could be.. thanks savageman.. but i just cant find the culprit... could it be accidentally happen? i mean, if it is old enough, could it just happen? btw its not old, almost 1 year..

I'm with Justin the Transmission is designed to run dry, if you feel it needs some lube a little dry graphite could be added but is not needed. However this is not what caused the problem. My guess is it got jarred somewhere and broke it all. Its possible that a rock go stuck between the spur and CB which could have caused the jarring. But who knows.

bank, do u mean the idler and drive gear is prone to destroy in 3 speed tranny? btw, yes its 3 speed.. and i put some grease to lube it, which i don't know it was designed to run dry.. thanks for the info guys...

so, if a rock stuck between spur and CB (spur stop spinning) while the tyre is spinning at high speed, the car momentum could force the tranny until it destroyed? ok, that make sense to me as the metal spur also loose its teeth.. tqvm evryone...

now i need to buy the parts, duh...

yea something had to of jammed up in the gears. its happend many times, the onley other thing i could think is your engine moved causing the bind..

nitromite, regarding if the engine moved, i think its not that because the mesh is still perfect after the gear destroyed.. but i think everyone is right about something or rock jammed the CB and spur gear..

londoner, i locked the spur because i got unlucky with the slipper clutch.. it keeps destroying the slipper no matter how i tighten the spur or change the nut.. in the end, i just fully tighten the nut.. i know this is not good, but it last for 1.5 gallon so far until now...

Yea i back off an 1/8 to a 1/4 of a turn, i just think if the slipper wasnt locked down totally this damage may not have happened, or not been as severe at least.

A lose slipper is only good for mills with no power ( stock , 5.9 etc) if you have a shred of power you cant run a loose slipper at all.

Mine would do this on acceleration. No rocks, no mistakes they just fail under a good load.

My Modded picco did that to 2- 3 speeds. Other damage to two speeds. The slipper if locked down (as I run it) could have stopped and took the teeth as the tranny checked out.

Last time I had the gears fail they jammed up, stopped the tranny and the mill took the weakest link next in line...

I can give you pics of 2 and 3 speeds with HD spur and plastic all shredded up the savage tranny is its weakest link..

Snapped the shaft clean off!

EXPLICIT FOUL LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!
this was not tuned yet and at the end it blows the tranny I thought it was the spur at first but found the pic below no rocks no nothing but picco power ..

I knew it was a long shot, and reading back i noticed you did say your mesh was good.

larsen and londoner, i know it should be done like that, but idk why mine is not working.. my friend (dirtyboo) use same setting as recommended for best result on his savage with modded picco.. until he finally destroy his diff during same bashing session with me..

bank, please send me the pics, thank you.. mine did that when its fully tuned (i think).. if yours still not tuned yet that time, what happen now when it fully tuned? and from your vid, i now remember the similarities, it happen after i apply brake after full throttle...

np nitromite... 🙂

I never got a 3 speed to last more then half a tank. I made a 3rd gear 1 speed locked tranny for it. Robim told me welcome to the half tank club. For a long time thats all I could get out of a tranny. Blew every part in a 2 speed 1 at a time lol. The 3 speed is better suited for low HP trucks like the XL the final drive gear is just too weak for a good mill.

I'll post a few the list goes on I did the two speed damage with a plastic spur gear so the weak link theory got blown out of water.

1st, thanks Robin.. 🙂

justin, thanks for the pics. this never happen to me (yet) bcoz my tranny is all metal. so its not the weak link but the mill power.. hmm, idk if my STS .30 is that powerful, so i'd stick to the rock stuck theory..

btw i did read ur thread bout locked 3rd gear as 1 speed and watch your vid last time.. thats nice when you have a mill that powerful enough.. u still use that setting?

i went to lhs near me today just to hear that it is closed on sunday..

lol so much for all metal gears .... Nice to see you still running and posting ! To your old post above this one (sorry I didnt see it till today) No I don't run that tranny anymore. Still have it but in a parts box atm. ATM full 3 speed with a JB weld mikey mouse final gear. Its holding up but shhh don't tell people or it will pop ..
