I have got a HPI Savage 25 RTR Limited Ed. 3 speed truck and wanted to buy a new engine for more performance. I mainly just bash it around and drag my mates with there trucks.I'm thinking of taking it down to one of the local tracks to race after it is quicker. They have Stadium Trucks and are alot lighter and they absolutely thrash me in the straight. Even though ive got 3 gears, they thrash me with a single geared .25 engine Gs Racing SUT CE. I was looking at the HPI K4.6 engine, OS 30vg, STS D28M. If there are any other better engines, please tell me. Money is not that much of an issue, i just want to get the most powerful durable engine i can that will last me a while. Also if there are any other hop up parts i could buy please tell me, all i have customized on my truck is i put a wheelie bar. So please help me out to get the most power out of my savage. And if anyone knows any good tuning guides for the 3 speed please help me out. MAIN THING IS I WANT MY TRUCK TO BE FAST!!!!! So what will you guys recommend doing?

All help appreciated

THANK YOU

we have reviews on a couple engines and the
os
30 is comparable to them. maybe a little better. there still going to kill ya. you might want to look at the suspension review also.

Yes i know. There just so quick, i manage to get infront of them off the line but a second latter there straight past me. I just want to max out my performance, but looking for a good motor at the moment. Does anyone know any other good performance mods. I have a Tamiya on road, and i spent about $500 AUS on it and comparing the difference in performance from the box was a big difference. In my opinion the savages are very limited to getting alot of performance. Its just the motor i guess you could do. I may be wrong because i have only been into rc for about a year now so i don't know that much about the savages.

Keep the help coming, all opinions please🙂

THANK YOU

Also how do i get all these reviews. For the suspension one and the os 30. I'm new to the site so i don't really know where everything is. If you guys can post up the links ide really appreciate it.

Thanks

So would i get more power by upgrading the diffs to metal, and I'm thinking of going with the os 30. Is there more of an advantage of changing the clutch bell with the main gear. So what other mods could i do besides the engine, that will improve performance?

Thanks alot for the help man, really appreciate it.

look at the review on the suspension mod. yes you need to regear the cb spur for the motor. also the 4 gear diff is for durability. 2 gear diff will explode with the os30 or any other hot motor. in the manual are of the main forum there is a chart that has viable gear ratios. also look around and see what other people have done. lot's of info and others will post on this soon and flood you with great ideas.

I'm thinking to go with the os 30 because i know OS are very long lasting durable motors. Well IMO anyway. Ill wait up and hope people do flood the thread with ideas and suggestions to make my savage into a BEAST so i can then thrash my mates rc truggys🙂 Any good places to buy these products from at a good price?

This guy recommended the RB tm928 engine. What is the most powerful/best engine i could buy, money not being a factor?

Help out another savage owner here please🙂

Another aussie. I think we are going to take over the forum. Woohoo. I would go picco p3 or the Lrp .28. The .30 tend to have a lot of low down power but not rev quite as fast. The .28 still have more then enough low down power but rev harder. The .28 also have a better reputation for reliability (picco, lrp or axial .28rr).

I have the same truck as you too. Well it was anyway. The limited edition has the 4 bevel gear diffs but needs alloy cups. Get the HPI alloy diff cup kit. It comes with most of the shims you need and the quality is as good as any if not better. I would also highly recommend getting the sav x tranny case if you get a new mill. You will need to adjust your shift pionts with the new mill and the sax x case turns this into a 5 minute job instead of a 1 hour job that you will need to repeat 3 or 4 times before you get it right. You could do the diffs and casings as well. Visit nitronutzz on ebay and you can probably pick up the diffs, casings and tranny in one hit. That's what I did.

An Axial .32 may be a very good choice for you. An STS motor will b esuper fast but they require some "babying" so I don't recommend them to beginners. This is of course going under the assumption your a beginner. I feel confident recommending you an Axial .32 with a 18/49 gear ratio.

So i need to get the HPI alloy diff cup kit. So does my truck already have the 4 bevel gear diff? Also by HPI alloy diff cup kit do you mean alloy diff case?

I would say yes to all those questions. My limited edition had the 4 bevels so i assume yours would too.

On a slightly off topic note: With the 3 speed tranny can you adjust the first to second shift point threw one of the 2 holes in the tranny case. If not why are there 2 holes. I know on mine I can't but i was thinking maybe there is a new version of the 3 speed that you can.

Ohhh ****. I just saw the instructions and it clearly states that 2nd gear adjustment requires disassembly of gear box. Sorry guys for misleading info. Because i got my 3 speed tuned so i assumed he did it all from the outside. So what was that case that lets you adjust it in 5 mins Tim instead of disassembling the gearbox? Because looks like i need to buy it because i need to re tune my 3 speed.

Thankyou, and sorry bout the 3 speed wrong info guys.
