Hi,

I am to the point where I am needing to mount the motor on the motor mount. I saw somethng I didn't remember from my RTR ver. I will attach a pic. It is an extra hole where an allen (hex) screw, a 10mm long headless hex screw, goes in, the instructions say screw it in till it his the motors crank case.

I have no idea what this is for, or which one I should use? Will it help or hurt? Is it newer or older. Really which is better to use?

Oh the RTR version came with the 4.6 motor the SS came with a 4.6k version, if that helps..

Thanks,

John

I don't know what thats for, I would just disregard the extra hole and mount it normaly.
they want you to screw a set screw in from the bottom till it hits the crank case, is that what ya meen?

that hole is so that you can better level your mill. I use both set ups and they both work well for me.

Hi,

Thanks, that makes sensethat it is to level the mill, though I am not sure why it needs to be level or even how this would wrk (cause it seems it wouldn;'t make it even if you just lift one corner, strange.

You think they would say more than they do in the manual, they just say to screw it in till it hits the case?? I will attach a pic of it, also it is from page 29 in the savage x SS manual.

Thanks,

John

IDK Thats all i could figure when i installed mine seems to made for a better gear mesh in my opion

I wouldnt like that to much myself, don't like any screw rubbing the bottom of my mill. i never had any prob with my mill not being lvl.

Hi,

I anot sure if it is to level it or not what I am thinking it might be, still not sure, but maybe it is to help sink some heat away from that area??? I was thinking that because that end of the case is not touching metal. don't know if that would make any difference, just a thought.

It is probably for leveling it, like you say, my problem with that is it would be a lot of pressure on that one part of the case if you, well, if those 2 front screws are not tightened down all the way, or better to say if the engine is not flush with the mount. I wish the instructions said more, I might call HPI and see if they know. (I only say that because the one time I did call with a question the guy I first talked to didn't know even as much as I do, and worse he wouldn't say "I don't know" he just made the answers up, it was very easy to see he didn't hav a clue,. I guess he was new. I had to ask for someone else, the next guy was very good.)

If I remember to call, I will let you guys know what they say,in fact if I don't post back, if you remember remind me and I will call.

Thanks,

John

that screw is there to eliminate (reduce)the flex is the motor mount and to support the nose of the crankcase......reduces stress on the crankase and maintains better gear mesh......tighten down the motor to the mount first then just put that set screw(remember the locktite) snug (not tight) to the engine ,the screw is not there to "level the mill"

That sounds god to me, should I tighten it tight, or just snug, or just to where it touches it?

Thank you,

John
