how often do you need to change glow plugs?

i was just wonder how often does one change the glow plugs? is it after so many gallons so many tanks, or is it just change them when they stop working or glowing? or by looks i it looks bad change it i was just wondering is all.

Usually you can tell by how it's runnin. If you've been runnin it awhile and it's been runnin perfect (ie, not chasin a tune), then you go out and run it again the next day or a couple days later and it's runnin like crap, usually the glow plug needs replaced. That's what I go by. If it's runnin near perfect for a long time, then all of a sudden it's runnin off, I check the plug. Or, if you want, every 1/2 gal or so, pull the plug and check it.
