Hi Everyone,

I have a HPI Savage 25, and I have a problem with the truck, I own it for about 3 years and most of the time it has been sitting because I never got the time to fix my truck. My truck can start up, but when I give it some acceleration, it would rev, not move. It would just sit there, My Spur gear is not melted.I believe their is something wrong with the Transmission or the gears, I just thought if you guys know what's wrong, and see if you could help me before I decide to bring it to a hobby shop and get raped by the cost of the parts, which i could find somewhere else cheaper. Thanks for your cooperation.

I would start by checking all your dog bones and drive cups, if all that looks good, check your diffs. I was always going through the diffs in my savage 25 until I upgraded. hope that helps

Does the spur turn when the engine is running?
Are all the grub screws in place?
How tight is the slipper nut?
Do the tires turn freely or are they bound up?
If they do turn do you hear a crunching or clicking noise when you turn them?

I am gonna have to check ASAP, Sounds like i have to start it up and diagnose it. Ill get back as soon as possible. Thanks for the replies.

Not really. You can spin the back tires by hand to see if the front ones spin too. Thats to check that all the grub screws are in .
If you hear a crunching or clicking noise when you do this (easier to hear with the engine off) than you might need to check the diffs
The flywheel is the larger (usually silver) disc that the clutch mounts too on the front of the engine. See if that spins without you feeling the piston get tight at the top of the cylinder.
I just wish I could climb through the computer screen and help you out dude. I know your frustration at having this truck for so long and it not working for you.
Also, take the top off your transmission and look for missing teeth on any of the gears inside or possibly a screw that has backed out and is jamming the works up.

Hey Guys,
I checked by spinning the rear tires, and see if the front spins too. yes they do. my spur gear is normal, the gear that spins the spur gear can spin also. I actually decided to start it any ways. The spur gear spins, so i believe there is something inside the gear box that is broken. I just hope it won't cost me much to fix. X_X.of the silver thing, i spin it with my hand and it gets tight due to the piston move up. I'll open up the cover of the gear box as soon as possible. Also, if the gear box is the problem, could i just do a hop up anyways and get a 3 speed tranny?

Sounds like your doing a good job of hunting the problem down. I too believe that something must be going on with the transmission. Its been a long time since I installed my 3 speed but (if I'm not mistaken) you do have to use some of the parts for the 2 speed to build it. So it just depends on what is broken.
You can also pick up a new 2 speed trans already in the case for $20 off ebay.

it could be the slipper clutch . hold your truck stationary and give it some gas and watch the aluminum disk behind the spur gear to see if it moves with the spur gear. if it doesnt then you just need a new slipper pad. they are available for about 4 bucks at he lhs

Oh i checked it, Sorry oregonmud. It actually seems to be the slipper pad, because i tightened the nut yesterday, and give it a 1/2 turn loose, like the instructions, and then i checked today because i wanted to open the gear box and then i see the spur gear loose again, i think it is the pad, isn't the spur gear comes with the pad when you replace the spur gear. I'm going today to the hobby shop to get dual disc brakes, just to hop up , my current braes are worn anyways.

Tighten that pig down and don't back it off. If you replace the nut it should fix the backing off problem.

yeah i tightened it. but it still went loose. its the damn screw for sure. ill get it replaced tomorrow, and the spur gear, i got some teeth missing. Anyways, is there any remedie to stop the screww from loosing?

You can add some Loctite if it backs off with the new nut. But honestly, the new nut should fix the problem.

No, didnt see any washer, i went to the hobby shop and they gave me a nut but didnt have the hex nut, they don't have any, where can i get the original nut? Now i have to get a washer to hold the spring with the new nut.
