Half tank lean issue resolved for pennies?

OK, I am going to throw this out there now that I've done a little testing and others have tried it.

I noticed my half tank lean issue went away when I extended my fuel line that runs from the tank to the carb.

To test this, I put the original line back on and ran a tank, and sure enough it was back. I have now also had a couple of buddies verify it on another X and a 25.

Below are some pics of my setup. I run the fuel line further down the back of the truck.

I would love for some of you guys to try this and see if it makes any difference. If it does, this is a lot cheaper than the OFNA mod.

I like how you mounted the lines .. How do you like them braided fuel lines .. any downside to them ?
 
This does help the problem, however it basicly covers it up by not solving it totaly. You may not see the affects but there is a bit there yet. You should be much better off this way thought and it is a cheap fix to help with the problem. Good post.

another benefit of a longer fuel line is that your truck will run longer when it flips on it's top...very helpful to a racer, when the track marshals are slow getting you back on your wheels...LOL
 
because the fuel pick up tube is at the bottom of the tank...so when you're upside down, the pickup tube will be sucking air, since gravity will hold all the fuel at the top (since it's inverted)...get it? I know alot of racers that will put an extra loop of fuel line on their trucks or buggies for that very reason...
 
Hey Whipnet,How long is the fuel line.I definately worth a try even though i have the new era fuel tank kit.Hope it does make it better that way i get longer runtimes compared to the new era tank(125cc),stock tank(160cc).
 
Hey guys, I run the stock tank. I have about 15-16 inches from the tank to the carb.

The braided hose was just for fun and doesn't help anything that I know of. It might protect the line from rubbing against the shock tower screws.

I understand this may not be a cure all, but it certainly made the problem almost non-existent for me.

(And I can run upside for quite a long time)

hmm i still don't see those pics of how you did your fuel line, and i cant figure out why as i can see every other pic!

I use the same system and find it helps the issue.

I used zip ties to make sure it doesn't move around. I also keeps the bumper braces in place so the hinge pins don't come flying out. Peace.

I'm using a longer fuel line myself but I still run into a HTL problem. My understanding of the problem is because of the pressure change in the tank due to the shelf... So is a longer fuel line really going to make a difference? Wouldnt a longer fuel line actually make it worse since there is less pressure to feed the fuel a longer distance? I do agree that the longer line helps in roll overs though.

I think its more that you have less pressure at full tank and it evens out at half tank so the pressure is always about the same.

I guess it doesn't work for everyone, but something on mine does it. Either the longer line, the larger diameter line or the fuel filter. One of those gets rid of my half tank lean.

Hey whipnet. Didnt mean to sound like I was doubting you, just still trying to understand the cause of the problem. You are using a larger diameter fuel line? I have a filter on my line as well. Its been frustrating trying to tune the engine with the leaning problem. How much larger is the fuel line you are using?

I'm glad it works for you. I'm going to try to run my fuel line the same way and see if it helps. How much larger is your fuel line? You said it has a larger diameter?:Xfingers:
 
I cannot answer that exactly. I just asked for fuel line in the hobby shop and that is what I got. I noticed when I first installed that it was larger than the stock.

I'll try to get a pic of it.

(The braided hose only covers the fuel line btw.)

ya i found the stock fuel line almost to small in diameter as i bought the du-bro fuel line and i swear it moves the fuel better!! weird thing is its the same size as far as outside diameter but if u look on the inside the stock line is smaller

yeah thats the tank I'm using and it works great and the run time wasnt shortened a huge amount it went from around 13 min to ten sorta deal but its a way better tank and it comes with the brass fuel nipples to install as well which i like!! another benifit is it moves the tank off your chassis plate and leaves more room around the engine for air flow!!
 
i've never tried this myself but i have seen in a couple other forums were they were just adding a fuel filter to the pressure line and making it longer then it was stock and apparently this does something to help htl problem but I'm not sure how!!
 
I actually tried the longer pressure line. And the longer line with a filter and it didnt help. I tried the mod with the straw added to the fuel tank with little success. I was wondering if this would make a difference.
