I have been so undecided on what to do about my wheels and tires. I want the truck to look huge, big, and bad so bad but was not to sure about going to big joes or just oversized wheels and tires at all. You guys gave me lots of great info to consider and tonight I had the opportunity to try out some HPI Goliaths on my savage. I have a 52 tooth steel spur gear that yesturday had the truck doin wheelies on command to the point where the rear bumper is almost worn through from 20+ft long wheelies. Was awesome!! Tonight I could not get the front wheels off the ground to save my life. In fact I broke a tooth off of a metal gear in my tranny about 5 mins into running. I dug the chunk out of the plastic gear it had melted into to get it running again, and in true Dennis Anderson fasion decided to run till she was dead. Well that came quick to. One tank and blew out a driveshaft but the tranny held together. If this is what I can expect then I can live without them. It was also obvious how much power it was eating up. It's amazing the difference. Glad I didn't go ahead and just get them. Wish I had some pics to show of where we were running for you guys though cause damn. There was a dirt pile about 12ft high that dropped off the backside and had a great lead up on the front with a kicker. Savage flew about 14 feet high tonight at about half speed. When I get a digital video camera out there I will hit it wide open for you so when I destroy the truck on landing its at least on video. lol.

Glad the forum was able to steer you clear, till you tried them. I have done my best not to let people waste money on them but the younger guys seam to like them. Why ill never know.... Anyways thanks for dropping a post on it and I hope yo see the vid of your bash spot soon.

i have a set of the big 7 inch tires sitting on a shelf,i thought they would be cool to till i got them,my savage x looked more like a tractor to me with them on,and the weight of them was insane,so I'm glad to hear you found out about them before grabbing a set because as you found out there really hard on the drivetrain .....

I still run the Goliaths and sometimes the terrapins when I want to wheely or go for big air. Mine is an XL, and the Goliaths are heavy but I liked how the added weight made my truck more stable. I don't have a lowered truck like some of the people here, so when just bashing I like the Goliaths. The terrapinns get better grip, and soak up landings better but don't handle nearly as well. I have the BP diffs in the truck now, and have had zero issues with the drivetrain running larger diameter tires. Only thing I ever broke was the rear pinion on the stock diff but I was launching it 20+ feet in the air with the slipper tightened all the way and doing backflips and such LOL. That was with the terrapins on. I'm trying to do other upgrades to the truck for now since I'm on a limited budget so I haven't tried any smaller tires on that truck but the old 25 I just picked has HPI wheels with Dirt Bones and you can tell the difference with the lighter wheels (and truck), but it also is quite a bit less stable than my bigger one. It wheelies like crazy, and flips over a lot easier when corner or even just hitting rough terrain. I like the increased top end of the larger tires as well. Once I get a new mill and stuff that will allow me to gear the truck up then I may try some smaller tires but I'm really happy with the tires and gearing combo now. 16/52 (stock XL gears/3 speed) with big tires. I guess it's all in what you want out of your truck. Not everybody has a raced out, full CF Savage with an ERCM drag modded mill and pipe LOL. I think with the stock mill and gearing the bigger tires aren't too bad. For max performance go with lighter wheels but you may want to gear the truck up a little to make up some of the top end speed you lose. Just a matter of preference and how you want to drive I guess.

ya on a xl i would imagine the bigger tires are awsome, but on my savage x didnt go so well lol

Can't wait for some vids. It has been a long winter with so few vids.

I got a set of big joes and the week I had to run them while waiting for my other tires to arrive seemend like an eternity. Don't get me wrong they did look cool with the way I had the truck built but it's a savage not a alum tmaxx shelf queen.

I run and have liked my Goliaths on my XL for 2 seasons now. They are very stable and seem to give me a perfect amount of grip/slide to avoid rollovers. I destroy my friend on the track with his Terra Pins. In any case, they are heavy as hell and my new LRP .30 can't even pull this thing up so I've ordered some Badlands w/ dish wheels.

+1 The same reasons I like them, though they are heavy.
