hi
since going from a savage 25 engine to a 4.6 the gears arent shifting up, it actually sounds like its starting off in high gear for a second then shifts down ????? any ideas ??

?? Thats a weird one there-I don't think it's possible to start off in 2nd and then to first the way theses transmissions work....Is the new motor broken in and tuned yet??

Chances are is that your clutch shoes are slipping when the truck shifts to second, causing an increase in RPM (sounds like it's shifting down instead of up). This slippage will be less audibly noticeable from a dead stop, as there is a fair amount of clutch slippage from a dead stop.

The recommended weight of the shoes, and shoe spring rates of the .25 are different than the .28

After you make a few runs with it (back and forth through the shift point several times), feel the clutch bell for heat. It should get very hot if it is slipping too much.

Moto

P.S. I highly recommend aluminum clutch shoes as they tend to perform much better, and dissipate heat much more quickly!

These 2 motors will shift totally differently as they have different power bands and different RPM ranges. My feelings are that the trans isn't set up properly. If I remember correctly you will need to shift at a later RPM range which I believe you should turn the screw in.

I'm guessing it is shifting so quickely you arn't hearing it!

What transmission are you running?

Another possablility could be the nub on the gear is shot. This is a picture of one I had that want working correctly.

tranny not shifting

If anyone sees this I cannot post a new thread for some reason. I have a savage 25 with an upgraded motor to picco .26 outlaw. It was recently given to me by a friend who got soo frustrated with it not shifting into second he gave it to me. good deal for me. well I found out i had an air leak in the gas tank so i replaced it. all the gears in the tranny and diffs look good. it starts up and runs in first but wont shift into second. it screams in first gear but when it goes to shift the motor starts to bog and hiccup almost like its going to cut out if that makes sense. i gave the shift point screw 2 adjustments clockwise at 1/4 of a turn it still didnt help. i also know from owning maxxes that if your hsn setting is off that can also cause your truck not to shift. i don't know what to do at this point. also can anyone tell me what the factory setting is for the shift point screw. i don't know exactly how much this kid messed this truck up before i got it.

i found that i turned the screw all the way in then turned it out 2 1/2 times it started changing again, now i have changed the spur gear from 49t down to47t and now it wont change again no matter where i set the screw ???????
