hi guys i have just took the top off my gearbox ready to put on a new spur gear.

so i had a look to check the gearbox is ok, and noticed what look like metal pins/ ? bearings in between the two gears nearest the engine.

anyone got any ideas, does it mean a new gear box ?

i have attached a pic, if it worked lol.

thanks tony

That pic is not large enough to see the issue. Can you host it on say photobucket or the like (galley works too) and use the IMG code from that site to post it into the the thread. don't use the sites img stuff.... If you use the sites gallery there will be the url under the pic. Put in
around that URL attachments are limited to 200 x 300 blah

hi bankrupt,

ive stripped it down and they are 3 screws that connected the 2nd gear to the clutch hub. that were floating about in between the 2nd gear and the clutch gear holder on the fist gear.

i wonder if this is the reason why i have been burning out slipper cluch/spur gears?

thanks for the info on photo upload.

Very lucky maximus, the holes in the second gear were quite enlarged but the threaded holes in the clutch were fine. Surely cant have been tigtened at manufacture esp with all 3 coming loose. The 1st gear with the one way bearing, the silver side face was pretty well scored. I don't think that will matter tho as it does not mate with anything as there is 2 shim washers between that and the 2nd gear, please someone correct me if I'm wrong! Saying that i can understand why it has a metal silver face? Maybe it does do sonething but i cant understand what! On the plus side bonus points to hpi for making the gearbox so simple and easy to work on. As i was so scared when i 1st saw what had happend. Luckily only £6 for a new gear and some screws.
