full steering upgrade sugestions?

I have been asking alot of questions around here trying to learn everything i can and am glad everyone here has been so helpful.

Anyways on to the issue at hand... Steering: in my opinion the steering in my savage could use some work, right now it feels like it has a turn radius of a small planet (I'm serious...i think a full sized f 350 could turn better than this thing.) not to mention i want to beef it up for the upcoming bashing sessions that are going to take place once i get my next batch of upgrades.

I want to beef up the points of failure (steering knuckles, steering linkage ex,) not to mention make it turn better better period. So lay your experirence on me, please tell what is worth beeting up and what is not?
 
make sure you don't have one of those planet rock servo savers on that thing , too.......they are notorious for stealing steering from a savy!!
 
you can change your wheels by getting a different offset. Also if you haven't already, tighten down your servo saver, upgrade to some kind of hump pack to get you 6v. Frddyj has the RSC and seems to very happy with it. I've heard there has been problem with the latest RSCs. So you might want to check on that before you drop the $$ getting it. Hope some of this helps.

what would be a good set of shocks to go with this set? Right now i am running a set of my frends Integy super duty shocks, they seem alright (more for show than anything) but this susspension conversion set makes it so you can have only one set of shock's in the front, this is for my basher so i need good shocks so that i don't bottom out as hard when i go for big jumps, any sugestions? And someone mentined that people have been recently having trouble with this kit and that i should be looking out...what should i be looking out for?

i have & love the HPI big bores, cant say enough about them actually. all the guys in our bash crew run 'em.


someone mentined that people have been recently having trouble with this kit and that i should be looking out...

do you think i could do a LST shock conversion using this set? A friend of mine has a losi and i love the big bore shocks that it has and then i saw a conversion set online, but it didnt mention if it would work with the steering upgrade. Input? And i read on the thread that they feel a little soft for bashing, the remedy was to put a stock shock on each corner to help with hte load...only problem is that this steering upgrade only accepts one shock up front on each arm.

bank ran the LST shock conversion with his RSC so it will work. then again, he switch from LST's to big bores & likes the bb better also.
 
is there an alternative version of the Big bore shocks, ones that are adjustable not just by clips but by a spin/screw nut to adjust the spring. I jst wanna get a set of shocks that wont kill my savage after a large landing but you can adjust them so that you can have some manuverability on the street/field.
 
I am using a set of those that a friend got rid of (got rid of his savage but still has parts lying around) and there OK have not taken them out bashing, just out on the street. But ill find out in the next couple of days what ill be doing as far as suspension goes. But i still need to get some more info on steering. I hear that if you upgrade your steering servo to a high torqe servo you run the chance of snaping your steering setup somewhere down the line. is this true? if so htis sounds easly fixed by getting more durable rods, i saw a set of titanium ones a while back that looked promising but i didnt know if it would be useful becuase i didnt know if the problem was true.

nope. you'll be fine. you can stick with the stock tie rods if you want, they is tuff!
 
(whipe sweat from brow) thats good to hear i thought i was going to have to spend more money (turns out pockets). And how do you get rid ofg that wiggle that is in the steering i have heard it called steering slop. If you don't know what i am talking about its the amount of movement that the weelscan turn without it turning the servo, its close to a 1/2 inch.

thats a lot of slop. first thing id check is the tension on your servo saver. sounds way loose to me.

you just described the factors that sold me on the big bore shocks. look at banks thread & see how low he sets his ride height & then watch the vid to see the jumps that it can handle.

Wow! I'm impressed that he was able to do that, do you know what weight oil he was using and which washers (sorry not that tech savy the washers you put in the shick to adjust how fast or how slow the shock moves). Becuase if i can do that with it sitting that low i am SOLD on the HPI big bore shocks and in the end it would save me alot of money to, rather having to buy the kit to make it work and all that.

same as shimming the diffs? And thats another question, do you have part numbers for all the shimms you guys use for the diffs and axles? I don't want to get screwed buying the wrong ones and have to wait another week to get another set to try them again (being out here in korea suckes to get stuff shipped to you it can take FOREVER, depending on if customs decides to get funny with your package, i had a package take 2 months to get to me once.)
