I've been having issues with the engine keeping running, it likes to stall alot. When it stalls I need to push the primmer in the tank a few times before it'll start again. I can see air bubbles in the the fuel line every time I prime it. But every time it stalls, the air reappears.

2 things I think may cause it, 1 there is a leak in the tank, like the cap isn't sealing, but it doesn't leak fuel anywhere, or could it bee cause the line to the carb from the filter is a lil larger than the line from the tank to the filter. This only because the I bought new line cause it was cracked and leaking, and it was smaller and a solid color. I kept 1 small good piece of the larger clear so I can see when the system is primmed.

It's a savage 21 with very little run time. it's all stock other than a paris pipe.

the older tank with the primer can suck air around the primer butten. or theres a pin hole in the clear line. if your running a fuel filter it could be not sealed good..
 
I am having the same issue with one of my trucks and have not looked into it yet. But If you pull the tank and lines from the truck put it in a sink of water pinch one end of the lines and blow in the other you will most likely be able to see where the leak is.
 
How much pinch is left in the engine? Turn the fly wheel over and see how much force it takes to turn it over.

How hot is your engine getting? Does it start up right after you prime it for the second time or does it take time to start? Some bubbles are normal but too many will cause a lean condition. Take a look at your temps this will determine if your bubbles are excessive causing it to run lean if thats even the problem!!
 
yeah i read on another forum that the old tanks suck air bad i have to get a new tank because mine does the same thing u just have to let it sit and work the air bubbles out on its own
 
Ya I've Also Read Somewere That There Were Problems With Those Tanks Having Air Leaks!!
 
thanks for the replies everyone. Ya it does get hot. It'll run for a while just fine, then it stalls. I reprime to get the air out and it usually starts up fine. but then it starts to stall much more frequent and gets harder to start each time. after about the 5th stall it won't start all unless you let is sit a few hours. I've gotten blisters on my fingers from the pull start trying to start the thing lol. but I'll get like 15 minutes before it stall the first time, then like 3-5 minutes after the 2nd start, then after that it stalls after a minute, 3rd start it'll run for a few seconds, basicly till I back off the trottle, like when ya have the idle too low but it's not.

Ok, so say I replace the tank with the newer primerless version from say an X or something, how do you prime it? just plug off the stinger and give the cord a few tugs? pull the line off from the pipe and blow in it? something else?

so noone thinks it could be due to the different size lines?

As you can tell I'm kinda new to nitros, My father got one last christmas so I messed with his tuning it and such and been reading how to tune them for a few years. But I've been into RCs for 20 years or so, so i know my way around them lol

Yep All U Have To Do Is Put Your Finger Over The Exhaust For A Couple Seconds While Turning Or "pulling" The Engine Over to prime it!! i installed the new era tank conversion looks awsome!!

Here are a few pics of the set up, and another question. I have the truck aparts cause I smoked (literally) the slipper clutch. I though the truck caught fire there was so much smoke lol. anyhow, here you can see the fuel lines and the obvious size differance from the purple to the clear.

And yes the filter is clean. I checked it to be sure. It's 2 halves with a replaceable element inside.

Does anyone know what this lil doohickey is? it's also 2 pieces threaded together. I thought it was a check valve or something but there is nothing inside of it. it's just an open chamber.

and a pic of the truck currently. As you can see the body is in pretty fair shape. It's the original. I got the truck the prior owner claimed 3-4 tanks. I belived when I saw the truck, it looked brand new. I've got about same through it now. maybe 5. and I'm not easy on my trucks.

I blew 3 of the 4 wheel hexes outa the originals wheels after the 3rd tank so I upgraded to 17mm with the HPI hex/axle kit and proline wheels. 1 tank later I burned out the slipper lol. This truck seems to just be plagued with small probs. Prolly why the other guy sold it. lol

Heres What It Looks Like With The Tank Guard!!View attachment 783 It Comes With Its Own Alum Mounting Bracket And Puts The Tank On The Outside Of The Chassis Plate But Still Fits Under Body!! they also have the same tank with a different bracket to mount it at the back of your truck but i don't think thats a good idea!! ( alot of busted tanks!) check out new era models.com

Ok, thanks, so do you not think it's because of the different sized lines?

Also, anyone know what this doohickey is? I thought it may have been a check valve but it's 2 pieces threaded together and there is nothing inside, just an open chamber.

Its Just The Ofna Tank With A Alum Mounting Bracket Which New Era Models Makes!! But The Tank Is Alot Better Built Then The Stock One! The Bottoms Slanted Towards The Stone Filter For Proper Fuel Flow And Comes With 2 Brass "nipples" And The Stone Filter Actually Scrubs Your Fuel Cleaner As It Passes Through !! It So Its A Bonus!!

Just A Note!! If U Ever Do Decide To Buy The Tank New Era Models Is Great To Deal With And There Pretty Cheap!

This is common with new users. Whenever you post, there is a screen that pops up after you hit the post button which tells you that it may be placed in a moderation queue...that was the case this time.
 
That extra fuel filter looking thing on the pressure line is used as a pressure chamber to hold more consistent fuel pressure. I have never seen one on a Savage and yours is kinda small it looks like somone just took the guts of a fuel filter out and mounted it. Personally that is way too small to do anything noticablly different get rid of it. My Turmoil buggy came with one but its like three times the size of that one I would just stick with straight fuel line for a Savage!
 
No, I know the blue one is the filter, I was reffering to the silver one on the line going to the cap on the tank from the pipe. It threads apart at the black stripe.


Thanks chunky. It was wierd cause when Id submit the post, it showed in the topic but after a refesh or moving on to another topic and coming back they were not there.

Ya Some People Run A Fuel Filter On There Pressure Line As Its Supposed To Slow Down The Air Flow A Bit
 
I Run Just A Straight Pressure Line No Filter But Its A Fair Bit Longer Then The Fuel Line To Help To Cut Down The Pressure A Bit!

Well since I had a roll over that caused the shock bolt to puncture the tank, I ordered up a new tank, a primmerless one. Also picked up a new fuel filter at the same time. I checked the current filter and the Oring inside (replacable element style) was kinda fudged up.

So hopefully these will fix this prob.


Prior to this happening though I went by engine tuning vids that are stickied in the forums and tuned my truck like that and all I gotta say is WOW, I have never had the truck runnin so good so easy. I couldn't belive top speed and throttle responce I got from it. it was pulling the front wheels when it hit 2nd. Lol Once I get it back together I'ma use that again a few more times to tune it till I get the hang of it then I'll start trying the other tuning style that is in the other stickey that is all text.
 
the tank has a filter stone in it, and yea Ive had fuel filters leak cas the stupid o ring it tuchy.. glad to hear you have it running good now..
