hey I'm in the process of painting/cutting my first body. i was wondering how people cut out the wheel wells on them? i was thinking about using a dremel.. also what grit sandpaper are people using? 600?

not a job i look forward to.. i used the curved scissors that i got at the lhs for about 6 bucks.. then i used my dremel with sanding drum to smooth the edges..
.
ive heard of some guys using the dremel to cut the whole thing out, but in my case, i can see the dremel running away on me...
.
what body did you go with?

i went with a 2000-05 chevy 2500hd body. i wanted a tacoma one but i couldnt find one anywhere... i recall seeing a tundra one somewhere but cant remember for the life of me...

really stupid question... do u put the window stickers on the outside afterwords or can u put them on the inside and paint over them??

You paint the bodies from the inside so you want to put the window masks on the inside and paint over them, remove when painting is complete. Also, depending on the color you choose, once your paining is complete, use either silver or black as a backing color it really brings out the color of your body.

As far as trimming the body, I have found it is easier to trim it first, paint, then take off the protective plastic sheeting, just easier to do IMO and you don't ruin the new paint job while trimming.

I have tried a couple of methods to trim the body, both with Lexan curved scissors and a dremel. What works for me is the scissors work better with the thinner lexan bodies (ex HPI Bodies) and trim with the dremel sanding drum. For thicker bodies (Ex pro-line) I used a cutting bit (looks like a drill bit) and the pencil attachement to trim it up. The cutting bit didn't work well with the thinner bodies. Hope this helps and good luck!

ha, i used to go there when i was in college in norwood. i also have a strip club in my town called the magic latern, which i haven't been in and never will go in either. lol anyways i got the body all cut out, drilled, and all i gotta do now is cut out the bed for the motor and gas tank. thats the scary part becuase i have to cut some of the back window out :-0 and now i just gotta decide what i want to paint it with. i chose a flourescent green so it matches my shock covers and it will look sick with some black lights...
