I've had my new Savage X 4.6 for about a month now and the weather hasn't been cooperating with me at all. So today I couldn't take it no more. So me and my buddy, (he bought a new one too) went out today and tryed breakin em in. WOW what a pain in the a##. My Roto Start kept sticking and I had to keep hitting the button to get it to stop rotating. Anyone else had this problem. It took a good while before it finally fired, but after a while to no avail it finally went. It idled a whole tank through it and we ran 3 more tanks at half throttle at about 200 degrees. Motor starts alot easier, but it seems like at TDC the roto start don't have enough grunt to kick it on through and it locks up. Then sometimes the Roto Start just kicks it over and fires up. I hope it gets easier. We tuned em in and all I got to say is Unbelievable. I can't believe the power that this truck has. Everyone says "Wheelies on Demand". Bullcrap, you can flip this truck clear over backward if you want. What a power house. Suspension just soaks up everything. Pull wheelies in second gear, let off the throttle to bring it back down, or keep pulling to flip it over. Very pleased with the truck so far. The only complaint I have so far is the Roto Start trouble.(but hope it gets better) Also I was wandering if anyone else has noticed the plastic spur gear wobbles on his and mine? I am a Savage fan now. I can't believe this all started from finding out the quality that HPI has when I purchased their Jeep body for my Ofna Blazer. I'll let ya know how it does.

I had this roto start problem today. I have had it for a while with another motor with no problems. That motor I broke in with the pull start.

Today I was also doing break in on a extra motor I picked up. HPI 4.6HO and it stuck on when the motor hit the pinch and the shaft stopped. It then rotated in my hand lol.

I just thought it was a low voltage thing like in a 24 volt starting system this can happen and Burn up the starter too..

I changed the pack out and it was fine after that. I don't know if it was voltage or not but your not the only one. I'll go put the batt on the charger and see if it takes a full peak or not. I'll post back tomorrow.

Mine a OFNA Part # 50000

When I did my break in the pinch was really tight at TDC i had to get myself a heat gun, warm the engine up to about 180 then it was easy to turn over (and i have a pull start!) Also make sure to rotate the piston to BDC whenever the motor shuts off during the break in, otherwise the piston will expand at TDC when it cools and be a pain in the butt to turn over. hope it helps

Update to the roto problem

My batt that it did that too ran for almost a full charge. 5 mins shy... so I'm going to say low votage with a High load did it to me.
