Had my .26 engine running mostly idiling and checked the temp with my temp gun and it was running around 302-306 degrees. I tried to richen it up but it gets sluggish. Plz let me know what I'm doing wrong!

It may sound crazy but don't concern yourself so much with the temperature. First and foremost, be sure the truck is not running too lean. You will destroy the engine with it being too lean before you will kill it with a moderately high temperature.

Get yourself another temp gun to verify.

Just to clarify, I'm in no way telling you that it's okay to run your truck with high temp's. I'm saying something is causing it to run hot. Try not to tune with the temp gun. Tune with your ears.

Good luck...

Might sound weird but when a engine runs hot doesnt it mean its too lean? It's about a full turn richer past the stock needle settings so I know its not running too lean...

personally take the engine out, clean it, seal it up with rtv sealant, reinstall and start at factory settings. You have an air leak somewhere. Also IRC to sluggish means to rich on the low end if its bogging down on take off.

Throw away the temp gun. I used one a few times every time my gun temp was way different than some one elses on the same mill one after another. My gun said engine was way to lean his said it hadnt even got up to temp.Personally,I feel that a mill tuned from sound and visual ques is a much better way to go.I would run the thing if there is smoke out the pipe at full throttle, imo you should be ok.The vehicle sitting idle is not getting the air flow to cool the engine, since air flow is the cooling. Run it see how it does.Just my opinion!!Good Luck

true but you also want to be also dropping temps at idle. i believe its 1 degree for every 4 seconds, is what Robin from ERCM says.

You want the temp to drop very slightly at idle because when your off throttle the engine should be cooling, if not, the temps will keep pushing higher during on and off throttle running and will cause temperature issues.

Thanks everyone...I'm going to seal them both up and see if that helps, I probably will eventually sell them both and upgrade. There both twin .26 powerhouse engines. You want them??
