I have a .21 with a pull start. My arm is tired Lol plus the 1 way took a crap so I figured while it's apart for that, I'd like to put on an electric type start. I don't want the stock roto start though. Is there a setup out there that has the bit you can chuck up in a drill that will work on a savage? I know the MGTs have a hex shaft with a balled hex on the end and it's just used in a standard drill. Thats basicly what I'm after. But every back plate I see for the savage has thta dogbone style fitting.

welcome to the forum bud.

as far as your question, you can put a roto start shaft into your drill chuck.

you can order just the starting shaft.

I would suggest if using a drill make sure it's reversible of course and it has a clutch on it and to set clutch on a kinda weak setting so if engine floods it doesn't wipe out your new starter, just my 2 cents,Dave

Thanks guys. I didn't think the rotostart shaft would work in the drill because it looks round in the pics I seen.

Dave, i have a craftsman 19.2 cordless with both reverse and clutch. Thanks for the tip.

And other than tower does anyone know a good source for those bearings? tower was the cheapest I found.

check nitronutzz , I don't know if he can get it but, worth a try. mention I referred you for 10% off

heres a pic of a members savage!! View attachment 804 i don't know the owner of this savage but i saw the pic in the album and thought it was cool to see a easystart system on a savage!!

You can use a roto start shaft in a drill. its only round 1/3 of the way, after that its a cut like screw tip bit. 6 sided cut.

Mon is right. I've had to use my drill once when my battery died for my roto starter. You might wanna try looking at the tiger drive unit. I believe the shaft needs a drill to start it. Not 100% sure on that one though.

Yes- I went that route also(Tigerdrive) That shaft is also 6 sided and has a ball at end unlike Rotostart that has that dog bone tip.Tigerdrive shaft is shorter though and likes to strip out easy because of the ball end so what I did was to cut the very end of my Rotostart shaft which is longer and made sure I had a strait shot at it and it worked fine for me that way.But I eventually went to pull start which is better IMO,Dave.

Thanks for the info guys! I just ordered up a tiger drive.

In the description it states it includes the 1way bearing, and that is sweet cause the one in the pull start just went out on me.
