I just got a set of Integy Rear carriers to eliminate the turnbuckles on my XL. I ripped off a turnbuckle when it cartwheeled. During installation, I noticed that when I tried to install the upper arm to the center hole position, the drive cup would bind with the drive shaft. I tried both carriers and they showed the same binding there. When I raise the arms horizontal with the chassis, the drive shaft loosens up a bit when I spin the wheel.

I wanted to see if anybody has this issue or suggestions on fixing it.

Thanks!

can you send a pic trike? i think i know what you mean. i have these carriers too, but put on an Xss adjustable upper a-arm. curious about the binding tho, wondering if its cuz your xl axle cup is extended vs. my X
.
Welcome to the forum btw bud :drunk:

Yeah, I'll get a picture when I get home from work. It's almost as if the drive shafts are too long. I just noticed on integy's site that they have a "HD Savage XL rear hub carrier". When I bought these carriers they were advertised for the XL. But the extended drive cups is probably the culprit. The XL is my first Savage, So I don't know all the differences between the X and the XL.

Thanks!

trike i had the same problem with mine. if you have the rubber orings in both of the cups you will have this prob. i removed one to make it work, its still tight but it doesnt adversly affect the truck. ive got 3 months on them now and still working great.

welcome to hpi sf

ok, yea, the xl. dogbones are thicker and ball-end of d.b. is much bigger. id be interested to see how they corrected it with the difference between the X & XL carrier.

Thanks for the friendly Greeting!

The Orings! Good call on that. I'll pop one off and try that. Which end is preferred to take the oring out of? diff side or wheel side? Thanks Mickey!

I'll see if I can find a cheaper source for the XL specific rear carriers. Don't think I want to spend $40 bucks for them.

I'm slowly attempting to bullet proof the XL. I figured the Rear suspension was a weak spot. I hit a jump wrong, it cartwheeled and it snapped one of the turnbuckle ears on the carrier. I swapped the left and right to get it back running again. The following week, I carwheeled again and this time, the plastic turnbuckle ripped off. I figured the Integy rear carriers would fix two weak spots. I'm going to see how hard it will be to break the rear arms after this mod. I have a set of RPM arms waiting to go on, but I wanted to see how "tough" the stock arms are.

I know the better solution would be to not cartwheel the truck, but where's the fun in that. 😉

Recently I too snapped the rear carrier where the toe link mounts after a long cartwheel. Today I installed the same Integy rear hub carriers to rid my Savage of the whole crappy HPI rear upright/carrier setup. BTW, the Integy parts weigh 2.3oz for both sides (pins and everything) while the stock parts weigh in at 4.5oz.

My truck has the HPI CVDs all around with Hellfire axles. I ran into the same fitment issue as the OP, where the axle does not spin freely. Mine should spin especially freely since the bearings are old and worn out...

Problem with Savage XL suspension

Is anyone having problems with getting the bigger shocks to mount and travel on the Savage XL? I have the complete suspension upgrade kit with the Oil reservoir caps and and the upgraded lowers and uppers on the arms. Every time i go into a turn the back wheel comes off the ground and the rear of the truck bounces like a jack rabbit on the straight away. Please Help me...Anyone!!
