Got my savage out of hibernation for a quick blast, .28 force fired straight up & gave it a blast but after only three minutes of fun had know drive to wheels. Found the 30t main drive gear HPI 111169 had smashed into several pieces, to be fair this gear must be the original one from when HPI brought out the 3 speed g/box upgrade what 18+ yrs old! 👍🏻

Have you or any of you guys had issues with this main drive gear then? Being £25 a pop hope it lasts as long as previous one!

Never had an issue like this with my one. Hopefully it's not just an age related thing, as mine is 21 years old this month. 🤞

I've literally just managed to source an upgraded high speed option for my 3 speed though - and it should be arriving today.

When I rebuilt my Savage and restored it after a lengthy hibernation, I did notice something must have got ingested into the transmission, (how?) because there were gouges on the inside of the casing. Bizarrely, all the gears were good though. 🤔

Could those scuffs be caused by a slight bend on drive shaft or wobble from gears where they perhaps need shimming out?
I've checked and the bearings, shafts and gears are mint. I have no idea. 🤔

Though back around 2004, a Tmaxx jumped the track markings and hit my truck at full bore. Perhaps the wallop did it? It broke an A arm. The only time I broke it during a race (if we ignore 14mm wheel hexes on the old Proline velocity wheels!).

I have yet to fine tune my 3 speed tranny & see if this high speed gear set has any improvement of top speed tracking using my skyrc meter!👍🏻
Strange if everything checks out but something is clearly causing the markings on casing! 👎🏻

That figures with electric the Dark side, got my hopes up there! lol 😂
Sorry, that was very, very bad of me. 😅 I won't make a habit of it - I promise. 🙏

I want to do some speed runs with this bad boy too:

0-40mph?

Top speed?

What do you reckon?

Can the Savage beat the Baja 5B 0-40mph time?

These are all shootouts that we need to see in an upcoming YouTube video. 🤩

lol I knew it wasn’t the Savage reaching that speed not nitro sadly! 😂
Nice collection by the look of it you have there though.
Would have thought the savage would beat the Baja easy! 👍🏻

The Baja ain't no slouch! This is on a well prepared, 20 year old CY Fuelie 26 cc

The Savage has to bring it's A game to beat it. Let's see what happens......

So it begins.....🤩

The whole rig is getting it. Cleaned, re-lubed, drive pins thread locked and the engine being serviced.

Nice looking TVPs mate, where were they from?
Recommend the newer easy excess g/box especially when fine tuning the 3 speed tranny! 👍🏻

Those are Fast Lane Machine TVPs. They're nice! I did have Innovative RC TVPs, but I've stuck with these. 👍

There's all manner of 1 piece engine mount modification going on with my rig. I'll take some pictures and detail the alterations.

Essentially, the TVPs lower the engine position - but the 1 piece mount had to be machined to clear the centre driveshaft. They also extend the wheelbase significantly.

I'm going to start a thread soon with links to the official 'Worlds largest savage thread' and the journey of my Savage has been on since building it back in 2004.

Here's the rather agriculturally modified one piece engine mount. As the FLM TVP's lower the engine and transmission significantly, the burly engine mount had to be hacked quite severely. 🤣

Transmission was in good shape. Pawls were working nicely, all teeth present and correct.

High speed 3rd Gear set fitted. 👍

Nice one makes sense my friend, your be getting the easy excess bulk heads next which are a game changer also!👍🏻
What about the sway bars have you already got them?

Easy access diffs would definitely make sense. 😎👍

In theory, the anti-roll bars would make a lot of sense!

I often entertained the notion of fitting them, but after 2 or 3 excellent seasons without them, I never actually did. 😅

What I have done, is lower the centre of gravity, extend the wheelbase, strengthened the centre driveline and diffs, massively improved the effectiveness of the brakes - then, once everything handled right, I proceeded with increasing the power. Starting with the porting work on the NS 25, which I did in 2 stages, then after about 10 gallons of fuel later, the installation of the STS D30M - which not only has lots of torque, but is very keen to rev. 😁

PXL_20250418_123709499.MP.webp

Given the sad demise of Novarossi, the only engine that I'd consider to replace the STS is the LRP 32 V4, which I'm sure would produce even more torque, in exchange for some RPM's.

My most significant recent acquisition is a 'rare as unicorn tears' Futaba R603FS receiver, which I installed today and it works beautifully. It's a similar vintage - 2010 - along with the HiTec servos. 😅

The easy access transmission makes practical sense for the 3 speed, although I'm confident it won't need any further adjustments since it worked perfectly the last time I run it.

I'm tempted with easy access diffs. 😎 Let's see how she tunes up. 🤞 40mph - here we come.

It's great to have my hands on the receivers so soon - I wasn't expecting them until the early part of May.

This means my Losi will be requiring gubbins as well - it's ready to go! And 100% pristine 🤩
