hey guys I'm new here but ive been in this hobby for a year now. my question is my savage x 4.6 it keeps breaking the ball bearings that hold the diff in place. what would cause thas and how to fix it,:Radioactive: thanks

i do have pics but i have to find my camera lol. it only tears up the left side bearing. and it been sidelined for about two weeks so i had to order a new diff cuz it tore up the ring gear and pig gear. and when i'm bashing and whoopin the guy next door in a straight line it floats like a caddy how can i fix that?

I have the exact same problem. I'll bust a diff. bearing after about 8-10 tanks. It's not a shimming issue. They are shimmed. I just replaced all the diff bearings on my 3 savages with 10x16x5's from Avid Bearings. After my Thanksgiving bashing session I noticed that were failed again (10 tanks). Maybe the Avid's are just cheap. I'm looking into the Boca Green seal.

Jon.

yea wild, again without seeing a pic & assuming that your bulkhead isnt damaged, I'm gonna say that you need to shim your diff to get a nice, smooth mesh with your pinion & eliminate substantial side-to-side movement on your diff.

you want a minor bit of side-to-side play & I'm gonna say about .4-.5mm would be sufficient to mesh smooth but not damage.

in this pic i had to shim the diff 'opposite' the ring gear side of the diff to get the mesh i was lookin for

sorry for using the same pic in different threads, but it stinks having a diff problem, been there done that :drunk:

thanks man this is my first monster truck i have mostly onroad cars but having a savage now is so much better than onroad you can really get nasty with them plus is more of a challenge to drive and race. i did check the bulk head and all looks fine no cracks could it just be dirt cuz where i live we don't get much rain and there's a ton of dust.
