Then.......FIRE!

After beating on the truck a bit I pretty much replaced all the plastics and bearings as well as upgrading a few more things.

That was build two.

Sorry about some of the images being small but the forum doesn't seem to like some of the links but I can post as a thumbnail?..
Sorted most of the images.

Build number 2 looks a beast (y). What lipos are you using ?
Just edited post above so you probably didn't see before you posted. I was just using the standard blue Turnigy LiPo's.

So that was build 3 and it's still pretty much the same. I ran the engine in and still not run it in anger. The truck has sat for a good while but with some inspiration from my 4 year old I have completely stripped it, cleaned it and started to rebuild it.

Might sound a little wierd but the truck just isn't "dumb" enough. I converted it to nitro after watching my friends bash there nitro Savages. Wheelies, tip overs, smoke, screaming nitro engines, madness! This thing feels like a truggy.

So I am making some changes.

Hellfire red springs
Super Heavy Duty X axles
17mm hex and pins
Flanged lock nuts
17t HD clutch bell
20190118_172001.jpg

HD clutch bell to replace this. Steel spur ate it.
20190118_174205.jpg

This is where I am at right now.

Waiting for new clutch bell bearings to arrive before I can do anymore, forgot them on the last order :wacky:

So that's it, the short version of the story so far.

Great looking truck,
I've been there,
Had a flux then back to nitro,
Then built a twin savage,
Then back to brushless and finally back to nitro,
Just can beat the nitro buzz screaming past?
Run both savage xl flux and xl nitro with f5.9 engine

I run the hellfire white springs on my X with I think 40wt in the shocks. It does pretty well. I have a set of yellow's on the back of my flux hp with white up front. Not sure I'd want any stiffer than that. Just causes shock ends to snap. I tried 50wt with the yellows on the rear and white on the front, cost me 2-3 shock ends in a very short time. Went back to 40wt. 40wt with yellows is a bit light, they responded better with 50wt, but it does ok on the flux. Helps with the torque squat at least. Just a little more bouncy than I'd like. But I'm staying with the 40wt to avoid breaking ends constantly.

Good looking truck though!

Is it for sale?:) j/k
Looks sweet....very nice rig.
:ROFLMAO: I've contemplated selling up a few times but I just can't do it. Thanks, just needs to be covered in mud now!

Thanks, I loved it when the truck was brushless but seeing my friends run there nitro Savages. I just had to do it.
I have trouble tuning one engine, let alone two! Looks awesome, bet it sounds insane as well

Thanks for your input, much appreciated. Think my shocks are built with 35wt atm. I'll see how I get on with the reds and I'll adjust from there.

Missed a delivery today :wtf: Will get that on the way back from work tomorrow and hopefully make some more progress. Would love to get it all sorted for this weekend!

Thanks again for the kind comments guys (y)

Stripped engine the, some surface rust on the crank and bearings.

I thought the 30X was a bump start engine. A guy I ran with a few years back bought that engine, then bought the pull-start backplate, owb, starter, starter shaft and crank. Seemed like a long and expensive way to go about it to me.

Looking at the parts comparisons now though, looks like they use the same crank. Different piston/sleeve and carb though. Normal 30 being a 5 port vs X's 7 port. Probably good for a few more rpm's. Got any video of it running from before?

Yes you a correct, the 30x comes as a bump start. All I got was the backplate with OWB and pullstart to convert.

Unfortunately I don't have any videos at all. The engine has probably seen 15 tanks maximum but I neglected it a little in the fact I didn't use AFO the last time I used it and let it sit for well over a year with no use.

I actually never really got it fully tuned tbh and I spent a lot of the time trying to get the 2speed set up.

Engine now rebuilt and sealed as per the thread on here.

Weather has been terrible here in England so waking up to a clear sky mean't my boys where straight on my case to get the LiPo's on charge so thought I would take the Savage for a little shakedown after the strip and rebuild.

As they drove around a water logged BMX track I stayed in the carpark.

Got the linkages all sorted so everything has clearance. Smooth and it snaps back to idle with no movement of the carb slide under braking. After taking this pic I realised the brake rod end wasn't where it was supposed to be ?
20190209_135902.jpg

Fired right up, idled well and popping on acceleration. No room to really open it up to get a final tune or set gear changes tho.

Harder springs doing a good job of holding the weight of the truck and not allowing it to wallow around under acceleration, braking or cornering. Will have to wait to see how it performs on a proper run for landings.

After each pass I brought the truck in to check it over a discovered the carb had come loose so I will be removing the sealant from the carb neck.

Overall happy and can't wait for better weather to give it a good run.
