Well you all took off to the World Finals and left me home with no one to shoot the poop with. I decided to make a mount the hard way seeing as I have assess to a Bridgeport but thats just cheating ... I only used a drill and a dremel for the most part. I did take out the Roto Zip to make a few cuts faster than the dremel can. This can be done by any one who can use a set of calipers and lay out a straight pattern !
My intent was to make the mount true to NewEras design and incorporate in a wing mount solution for a Revo wing as well as add some strength to the mount.
I started by finding the over all hight I needed for the wings mount to clear the shock tower. Then how much of a bump out I needed to mount to the bottom of the wing off the tower. I found a 1x1 inch piece of angle would be perfect for this. I then went and picked up my aluminum at the hardware store. I had intent on using 2.00 thick stock but they only had it in 1.275 so I grabbed it, and got a extra strip that I need to make a servo mount on my basher as well. The new piece is 2.555 thick and NewEras is 2.035.
I have a buddy who works there and I also scored a full set of stainless hardware for the racer in all for 14.00 dollars so I don't even know the full price of the aluminum but I'd say it was well under 10 dollars but IDK.
I got to work I laid out the bolt pattern and drilled it in the angle stock then did the same in the flat stock. I bolted them together and made all my cuts and sanded down the edges. It is still in its rough stage but I was not going to take the time to make it pretty till I know it will hold up to every thing the truck can throw at it.
THE ANGLE
ANGLE AND STRIP (out line is New Eras piece)
THE BIG DREMEL
TWO PIECES TOGETHER IN VICE
ROUGH CUTS (Roto Zip to finish up with the dremel)
WING MOUNTED (With New Era over it for comparison)
MOUNTED ON TRUCK
I will test the heck out of this piece and if it works well I will take and start cross drilling it to remove unneeded weight. When I find the point it fails at its done. At that point I will make one on the Bridgeport to the pre-fail specks and be done. :bluehack: Thanks for looking!
