Hey guys got my new mugen 1.0 springs and alum shoes. went to put them on today and the spring doesnt line up with groove on the flywheel nut. its like 1/10 of an inch off...any suggestions?
 
Do you mean that they stick out of the groove? if so try this Pilot nut . It has a deeper groove and seems to work well with the mugen 1.0 springs.
 
That pilot nut is the ticket.


also, The shoes will only work one way.

If this is your first time replaceing shoes, it can be tricky.

start by removing all shoes but one. that way your sure to know which way they go on.

and you will see the position the spring should be in.

The normal direction that they go on the springs are going to be pushed downward toward the flywheel to get in the groove.
 
The mugen shoes have the spring groove off center, you have to use a different nut. I changed my flywheel to the lightened mugen one and the there alum shoes and nut a while ago. It's quite an ordeal and expensive with having to change everything but worth it. The little washers do go between the shoes and the wheel and DO NOT put the shoes on backwards. Crash is right changing shoes for the first time can be tricky but you'll get the hang of it. Keep in mind easy does it-don't loose your cool.
 
man i been down for like 2 weeks. now i have to wait more time for the new stuff to come....thanks for your help i guess ill buy the mugen flywheel and nut.
 
can i put a shim/washer in between the flywheel nut and flywheel to make up the difference until the new stuff arrives?
 
well i've already been through all the washers i could find in my tool box and the problem is on the flywheel you have to make sure the shim is soo wide as to restrict the shoes from sliding to the back of the flywheel. I'm going to home depot tomorrow with the flywheel to see if i can find a washer that will fit and if i do ill let you know how it works out. I ordered the new flywheel nut for $7.49 off ebay but I want to see if this works. hope it helps out anyone thinking of buying mugen shoes and springs.....buy the new nut also.
 
had the same problems with mine .i ended up putting a glow plug washer behind the flywheel nut to make up the difference the washers on the clutch shoes made. i had to play around till i finally got it . i haven't had any problems with it set up like that so i hope it helps.

That is an awsome idea. thanks dude i have a whole bunch of glow plug washers here.
 
your problem is shimming the clutch. You can just get the mugen nut. However you should first buy you a ofna shim kit. Then if useing the stock nut. Crank the nut down to push the flywheel back further. Use the tiny washers between the flywheel and shoes. Next you don't need a washer between the shoes and bearing. you should be fine then. Also get rid of the brass spacer that is at the end of the CB and screw. Just use a few of the remaining washers from your kit. DO NOT USE THE COPPER WASHER FROM A GP. IT WILL ONLY GET SMASHED AND MANGLED ON THE SHAFT. You can run the shoes in the trailing direction. there is not much differance. It will actually run cooler on the CB and clutch it has more positive contact then a dragging then catching effect. It will make it a little more aggressive. You prolly won't even notice as it is not that big of a differance. But that is another way to do it.

Thanks for all the help so far guys! Here are a couple pics, I hope you can see them good. If not, tell me what pics you need to see and I will take them. I have the motor off, I re-did the clutch shoes, I think I did them right. This time I didnt tighen the clutch bell screw as tight as last time, and it moves freely now. am I in the right direction???
 
Did you post in wrong thread??? Pics are so so,but that end bolt needs to be fully tight with the proper spacers and movement...
