Building new set of diffs! Sugestions?

I finaly destroyed my front diff and thought that i might as well build up a new set and beef it up since i am trading out the stock k5.9 for a modded pico. Never rebuild my diffs before and could use some experince as to what parts i should buy and what others should be salvaged from the stock diffs. This is going into my bashing rig so whatever you sugest please keep that in mind.

if you got a XL, i would keep those diffs & shim them properly theyre upgraded from the X diffs which i never had a problem with.

i can dig out some shimming threads for you in a little bit.

i never blew a diff till i upgraded to Cen. the ring gears are tuff as nails, but fewer & longer teeth on the pinion makes them weaker than the X/XL pinions by design, imo.

price is way down since i got that kit, saw it on the bay last night for under $50.

Wow good stuff, ill have to get a set of those when i get my new mill, But if you say the stock diff's for the XL are tough then I'm going to take my friends offer and steel one from him for practicaly nothing. And i have never shimmed a diff befor so whatever info you can lead me to would be awsom, thanks bro +1 for you.

yep. like i said i never had a problem with the stock X & the XL are an upgraded diff to the X.

sweet! thanks for the link ill be sure to buy some shims. I think I'm going to do everything as one upgrade, shimming, tranny, clutch, gears, and motor, should be pretty wild once its all done!
 
I have a XL, and i have broken 4 stock pinion.. and i did shim them as all the videos in the world told me to.. every time i have been driving for max 15 min then the pinion broke.. its to week.. or the metal is to hard. I allso think that the stock ball baring is to week.. 10X16mm is to small.
so now i have 2 beefy CEN diffs on my XL... and I have used them for like 4 liters of fuel.. no problem.
my advice is, Do the CEn diff mod.. it lasts...
 
thanks for the link. Right now I'm going to keep using the stock diffs (just replaced them with new ones i scavenged) and when they go ill upgrade to these diffs and give them a try. Thanks again.
