So I finally got my brakes working on my Savvy X, but now I don't have a lot of braking power, I have played with the dial on the side but I have it cranked and I still can't lock up my brakes. How do I fine tune for braking power?
 
Swap that spring out for a piece of fuel line. Upgrade to a battery hump pack. Just 2 easy things to do. I recommend you do them in the order I posted.
 
Remove the spring and install a 1 1/4 in. piece of fuel tubing inplace of were the spring was originally. Adjust the break arm lever according to assembly instructions (if you have them) and confirm that the brake linkage is applying enough force to the break shoes by pushing the break arm forward towards the front of the truck. At this point you should be able to get a good sence of stopping strenth of the shoes. If this does'nt help you, go to HPI's website and get the assembly instructions for the 4.6 SS kit. this will provide you with the break instalation section of the assembly manual.
 
as above, but remove this spring also.

glue a piece of plastic or zip tie onto the lower arm to push the throttle horn, seen below. you will need to make sure there is a carb return spring, i relocated the stock return spring to the centre gearbox.

removing this servo spring allows all the servo torque to be applied to the brakes.
the picture below shows this, i have also bent the arm that activates the brake due to the pads wearing down.

Hey, those extra tips are cool to know. How much break pad do you have left by the time you needed to bend the break arm? I think it would be pretty cool to repad the break shoes with a alternative shoe material so the break ring assembly can be beefed up abit.
 
i spilled fuel on the brakes once and had to clean then with nitro cleaner, this dissolved the glue backing on the pads and they fell off.

i used some jb weld- metal putty, bonded it to the metal brake shoes then shaped it down to about 3/4mm to 1mm thick. they have lasted well, but wore down fast running on sand, as it gets every where some stuck in the holes in the disk and wore the pads.

there was less than 1/2mm thhickness left on the pads after the beach run, so i bent the bar to get the same adjustability from my brakes.
