Which brake set should I upgrade to? I've got the old Savage X 4.1 single fiber disc with two metal plates. From the start they never worked well, even after lots of adjustment and fuel tubing in place of the spring. I was using the stock SF-1 servo (i know it's weak), but there was next to nothing for stopping power. Going to be using the SF-2 and upgrading to a new steering servo.

I don't do any racing, but I do need to use the brakes from time to time to avoid head-on collisions with immovable objects. So which Savage version of brakes should I upgrade to so that the brakes will suit my needs? Are the $13 dual fiberglass discs a worthy upgrade?

The dual fiber setup is the best IMO. You'll notice much better braking going with the SF-2 there instead of the SF-1. It sucks.

You can also do the OFNA throttle mod for better adjustments.

yeah go with the dual fiber disk brakes way better than the dual steel setup that i bought one time by mistake

I use the single disk setup and it works fine with a better servo. I'm using the Hitec HS 645MG in my basher and the Hitec HS 965MG for racing. They both use the single disk setup.

Using a HS-7955TG for steering and thinking about a HS-965MG for the throttle/brake servo. I bought a HS-5645MG but I might go with the faster 965...what do ya think? Do you notice a big difference between the two?

Be sure o check the cam which moves the brass piston ,,its very soft ,and causes lots of head aches.
