So I bought one of those Dual Fiber Disk sets and hardware for my Xss.

I am installing it now and have two questions:

1- The metal pads, one side is smoother with rounded edges, one side is not.
What side makes contact to the disk?

2- When putting all this together, do I tighten the screws and much as I can or back off and make sure the disks cam move freely? (sounds stupid but I want to make sure.)

Thanks!
Rob

Either side can contact the red fiber. You will have 3 metal pads it will go Metal pad, red fiber, metal pad, red fiber, metal pad. So the Fiber disk will touch each side on the middle metal pad.

Secondly, you should be able to tighten the screws tight, just be careful not to over tighten them.

I think you will be ok as long as the rounded side is towards the hub. The tighter you get the screws the less stroke the brake lever will have before force is applied to the pads. If you get them too tight they will drag, too loose and the lever will stroke out and be soft. Just play around with them and you will get it right.

Usually the shoulder on the screws are extra long and there are washer shims that come along with it. You will need to have the screws tight or they will back out and you will loose all breaks along with the screws. You will need to install it and see if you need any extra shims. I believe I put one set on both screws on mine when installing them but everyones set up is a bit different.

I also put a dab of super glue in the hole then screw the screws in to insure the screws to stay in there place. Note: Do NOT use Thread lock.

Also, the washer shims go on the outside agains the screw head. Between the head and the Metal Pad.

I got everything installed. The screws are tight, and there seems to be a slight contact with pads and disks. Nothing bad, but I can tell they rub a bit....that going to be ok?

It should be OK so long as they don't drag more when radio equip is on. The Fiber and all will wear in a little so it should be running smooth with in a tank or so.

I'll test it out once I get it all back together. I have a feeling it will be ok.

Thanks again!
