Hey All,

This is one crucial part of my truck that I haven't spent anywhere near enough time on so far. Basically I have such crap breaking at the moment that its frankly a bit dangerous now that my truck is getting faster with the breaking in of the engine.

I've tried adjusting the plastic end to get more breaking applied when the servo actuates but that still isn't enough really, applying full brakes just slows the truck down over a fair distance until it stops. Its not like slamming on the brakes to stop quickly ... I just wouldn't be able too at the moment.

I'm running a 1400ma hump pack so power isn't an issue. If I grab the plastic adjuster and pull the truck forward with that the brakes bite the disc and the thing won't move so the actual brake set-up is good to go ... so to speak! 😉

I've recently chucked a HiTec 645MG at the steering which means I have a spare SF2 stock steering servo lying around not doing anything, would this be a good temporary brake/throttle servo in place of the SF1?

I've also heard that its a good idea to put a length of fuel pipe in between the end adjuster and the servo horn on the break linkage so I'm going to try that too.

Also I've heard loads of things about a hofna linkage upgrade, are there any links to these items?

The future plan is to shell out a good wedge on a really fast high torqe servo for the steering and then swap the HiTec 645MG in for brake duties so I know where I'm going with all this but that doesn't help me now.

Any thoughts?

Make sure that when you hit the brakes (with the remote) that the brakes are being firmly acuated. If not make sure that the screws holding in the assembly to the trans is tight enough. Then like you said you can stick a piece of fuel tube next to the plastic adjuster nut instead of the spring. Also you can try adjusting the end points on your remote, maybe its set so it doesn't move far enough to fully actuate the brakes. Heres the links to the two parts I used for the ofna linkage mod:

top stuff!!!! thanks for the info and links. I So need to get this part of the truck working right before I go out again.

yes thats what i did anyway, i installed the 645mg on my steering and moved the s2 to my brake-throttle and used the fuel tubing as well and the first time i slammed on the brakes it flipped over lol so i had to tone my brakes down a bit lol!! it worked well for me anyway!!

just cut the fuel tubing a tad longer then the spring is and swap the spring with the fuel tubing!! all it does is allow the servo to apply the brakes easier but it works!! glad to help!!!!

I cut a platic bic pen and used it in place of the spring. Just did that this morning, it works great with me pushing it on the kitchen table, not sure yet how it will work in real life. I will test it next time it stops raining.

mine actually came with fuel tube on the brake link, after swapping the servos around my brake work really well.

interesting fact about the graphite disc over the dual discs as well. I have been considering the dual disc setup but will look into a graphite one now instead. thanks.

HPI makes it. i kept stripping out the dual discs. i went through probably 3 sets, and i wasnt being really hard on them. the graphite one has been on just as long as the 3 sets of duals combined, and its just barley starting to show wear.
