i purchased a big bore kit from the LHS and when i took them out i had too put two of them together and then when i put them on the truck i pushed the rearend down and two of them leaked at the bottom caps i was just wondering if any of yall have had this problem
 
Yes if your talking about the HPI big bores.I just put mine on yesterday and one leaked at the bottom.You know you have to tighten them.They come loose.On the bottom also.I did that and still had one leaking.Had to run to home depot and get alittle bit thicker oring.All seems good so far will see when I take it out this weekend.

i mean its all four of them so i sent heather at hpi an e-mail to see what she said

when she replies, please cut & paste your e-mail & her response as many of us have the big bores & the issue of the bottom leaking seems to be coming up lately :resp:
 
Pull out the shaft and put a drop of oil in the end of the shock. It will lube the o rings and it will stop. Mine did this too when new and never leaked again. Bent shaft and all.. I found it odd but all I could come up with. Also lube the shaft b4 reassembling

transmission assembly grease/lube works wonders...comes in a small tub and is usually blue or red, looks like vasoline but will not break down any rubber or o-rings it comes into contact with.
 
Wish I had some pics to show you guys.Mine leaked where the bottom cap meets the metal shock cylinder.Their a oring on the OD of the plastic cap and it was leaking there.I could feel as I screwed the cap in no drag when the oring came in contact with the metal cylinder.Got a thicker oring seems to be good now.
 
It is always good and a must imo to prelube all orings...wether it is for the diffs, shocks, carb needles...ect.

I always use AE (Team Associated) Green slime for the carb o-rings.

For the orings in shocks and diffs I use the same fluid/oil that is going into the diff/shock, kinda like a presoak. When it is assembled it will seal correctly and aid in the install as to not get hung up on the threads of the shocks (basicly it sticks in place and seals itself.
 
Mine pee'd down itself. Was the o'rings in the end cap not around it. HPI puts them together dry I do believe. Like I said once lubed they have been fine since. I was mad at first but easy fix for me .. Have not had any issues with the outer cap rings on my 3 sets that use the cap 2 HF's 1 BB. Your 1 may have been defective Pete. I have seen issues with the mill orings. HPI don't use the best is for sure! I think sunkenmetal said he measured a mill oring kit and found different sizes to rings that should have been the same... May not have been him but that is a quote from a member that I know can use calipers the right way. I don't trust most peoples numbers..
 
i also have big bores. although it doesnt have an actual clear sign of leakage there is a tiny amount of oil build-up just around the shaft on the end cap. is this just the residual oil on the shaft collecting from it compressing and extending from inside the shock body? and is this normal? thanks
 
If the shafts are not wet with oil Id say your fine. I just went and took a look at mine and ATM all are dry. But I also cleaned the truck with dish soap and a brush the other night so not much to inspect. All shocks need a top up once in a while. Slight pits and scratches in the shafts will let out oil over time. The titanium-nitrate coating (gold color)will keep the wear down but its not indefinite. Check them for visible damage (scratches/pits) The rears get blasted when you play in sand so they will show signs of issues first. But like I said compress the shock and if the shaft is not damp with oil your fine.. Bash-em till they blow.
