I am on a tight budget...I can get either of these motors on ebay for $120 shipped. Heard great things about the axial and good things about the STS.

My rig is BIG...40 series rims and 6.9" Moab tires...3 speed tranny and 1" extended TVP's so I need a powerful engine.

I currently have a hyper .21..seems to run fine it just struggles with such a big rig.

I have not seen a direct comparison of these two engines for power, torque etc.

Which would you choose and why? Remember my rig is big and needs more power!

Thanks,

With sts engines, It's reccommended to use an STS pipe. So add that in to the cost.

Are you running an HPI polished pipe? If so, then your good to go on a lot of mills.

With that kind or wieght your pushing around, I would really reccommend a bigger budget. Like say $150 - $170.

That willl get you in the .28 class of mills and provide real options.

Don't get me wrong, the STS's have the price and proformance going for them but there are things to consider here. Depending on where you shop.

STS's are closer to racing engines and require rigorous break-in measures. So be informed.

Dynamite makes a Mach 28 for $150 thats I feel is a great mill for the price and delivers better proformance that the k4.6 by HPI.

We have 4 axial .28's, and love them. These engines are among the easiest to tune I have seen. I have seen alot of folks have great luck with STS as well, but I don't run them so I cant really comment on them.

If you do get an Axial, get the turbo head button. That thing makes the motor insane.

the button on my f4.6 engine is screwed up because the threads for the glow plug are gone so the plug now is loose in there. i need a new 1 but since its still a new engine i can not find any1 that sells the button for this engine by itself. does any other button off another engine work on this engine???

Correct me if I'm wrong but the Axial .28 button will fit fine.
