Allot of you know I bruned up the sts. I didn't think I was running it hot , my temp gun said so. Anyway, I am useing the duratrash temp gauge, what is a good way to make sure its right ?
 
boil some water and temp that. 100c and and check what the gauge says, this will determine the accuracy and will be within the temp range of the gauge.
 
Basicly anything that has a set temp that you can look up that is in the range will work, like the boiling water. Course the water will only be close not exact. Unless you use pure filtered water and clean the pan with alchol before hand to remove the possibility of soap residue.
 
The Emissivity of water is different the the metal of the engine, so it wouldn't be accurate

Yep it is......I did have one from Harbor Freight that had a laser on it and it acted up one day and got put to the side.

I got me a PE1 so I should see how that one works......
 
Hey Parker. I asked that same question about the glow plug and I was told to still use the 77E setting. I wasnt sure if it would be right that way either. Does anyone know for sure?
 
heat up the button fromt he engine in the oven at 300 degrees or something for a while so it should be at 300, then take a reading of it and see what it says

I've ran into this before. I had a friends Dura trax that the manual said to have it at 77E then my O'Donnell says to run at 100E so I did multiple comparisons between the two and decided that the O'Donnell was more accurate.

i was just looking at their manual and it says 100% for most metals which on their gauge is really 96 emissitivity setting,maybe the best thing is spit you know water boils at 240 degrees so if if bubbles away real fast its over, slower means a lil less.they are just cheap lil gagues and not meant to be sole unit you depend on.the guys i race with don't even use one they just use smoke and noise as their guide and a lil spit too.
 
On my comparisions they were both different at different stages of temps but for the most part the 100E showed a lower temp than the 77E

I too have a Duratrax Flashpoint.. manual said for anodized aluminium to use a 77E setting, using this setting Ive been getting anywhere from 190F-250F depending on the elements, but lately Ive been right around 235-245f using 77E

I'm curious though Id like to know If I'm on the proper setting or not..

EDIT; I just seen you said to try 87E, I wonder what the affects would be.. I know to tune for performance but have the temp gun as a guideline
 
Thats what I was curious about too nissan. If the setting is off on the gun I wonder how much of a temperature difference it makes. And in which direction. Am I running cooler then I thought or hotter.
SJ what setting do you use?
