hey everyone!! I have a three speed in my savage, and I have had it for quite a while. This weekend I went out to the gravel pit that we run at and it started shifting from first straight to third. I took it all apart to see if the adjustment screw backed out or something. everything looked ok, so I took it back out to try to do some more adjusting, and I ended up turning the adjustment screw all the way in, and it is still shifting way too early. The thing that really confuses me, is that it had been shifting the way I wanted all winter, but now that its warmer out I'm having this problem. I don't know if the heat has anything to do with this. Any ideas?

ya... I thought I might have had things backwards too, but I double checked. if i turn the first to second adjustment all the way in, I can get it to just stay in first gear. So I back that out till I get it to go to second, then I adjust the second to third. but now I'm out of adjustment.... Is there any way that I could have used the wrong set screw? maybe the set screw is not heavy enough to make the adjustment?

I have heard of the spring getting broken. Or even worn out.
Did you take steps to keep moisture out of the transmission when you were running it over the winter? The transmissions are terrible about letting water inside. You need to treat the gears with WD-40 once in a while to displace it and protect from rust. I also like to use a powdered graphite on the gears ater they are coated with WD. Just some added protection for the gears bearings and other moving parts.
