3 shoe clutch question

Has anyone ever tried reversing the shoe direction to the leading direction. I tried this and it seems to not engage as hard. Is this a racing setup more than a basher setup. I tried it on my hellfire and loved it but I run that strictly on my track. Thanks for any input

leading is more aggressive, trialing is progressive. If that makes sense.
